A DMF chat room would be sick. Especially for those need-to-know or need help sooner than later tech situations. Would probably require lots of expensive bandwidth though...
i think we already have one. its called "Say Anything", or "TOSAT"....
.........something like that.
You misunderstood me. A chat room is in real time with live back and forth.
Why do you think there would be more, or quicker, tech help in a chat room than the forum?
Also, how is a chat room any more 'live', or 'real time', than a conversation in a thread?
If signed in in a chat one is "in the room" so to speak and users can have immediate back and forth. With a forum its kinda close but I can be signed in but away at work and it looks like I am online though Im not present.
Information wouldnt be better, clearly. Info is info. But say someone was out in their garage trying to get their Vapor dash to work and having serious trouble. Maybe they are doing something that needs to happen because they need to ride to work tomorrow morning and its 6pm. They go on the tech chat, sees that there are 9 members in the room and they can get help possibly faster than posting on the boards and waiting.
BUT Ive seen chat rooms on other forums. Problem is that its just a plain chat room with no guidelines aside from no profanity so it gets buggered up with all kinds of dumb jibber jabber.

If you are inactive for 15 minutes the forum software shows you as off line. In a chat room if you walk away fro the computer it still shows you as present.
I see no advantage.
Ah, I had no idea about the 15 min part.
You're probably right...
