Title: Leaking radiator
Post by: LA on April 05, 2013, 01:41:49 PM
Anybody ever tried to repair a leak in a s4r or RS radiator.  I damaged mine changing a front spark plug and I seem to remember something like $1500 for a new one.

Yes my 2007 s4r rad got a pinhole in it. New one costs 1800. Brought rad to rad shop they use an epoxy 60.00 to fix no problems so far.

Geez. $1800! You could have one custom made for @ half that: http://www.rondavisradiators.com/custom.htm (http://www.rondavisradiators.com/custom.htm)

Yea, I just called the local shop and they said $1800.  That's a significant percentage of what the bike is worth.  I love this bike, but if I ever get another Duc, it may have to be an air cooled, two valve monster.

The S4rs is my fave bike I've ever had, but these things are just too expensive to fix.

Surly I can get by with 100 HP at my age.

I went through the same think I wasn't crazy about getting it fixed but I could not put 1800 in a 100000 bike

Aluminum radiator repairs are usually epoxy based.

If you can find the leak and get to it to clean and sand the area...

I'd use jb weld in a heartbeat.

A friend of mine sent me an email just before I shot myself in the temple with my son's 40mm.  Sounds like the real thing and its all welding and relatively cheap and fast.

Made my day I'm telling you.  I was super bummed out yesterday.
