was toying with this idea in the past ..... this time i'm confronted with a firm offer of $20K......... >now< >as is< >i want it<
just after i chopped it which was caused by my decision of keeping it for good...well, decisions can be changed
common sense says YES but the rest says NO.....gee, i really don't need the money and i don't want to sell my bike at all.........but should i change my mind in the future it will be harder to get a decent coin for it
(hey, Tool........hope you're counting the >>> I <<<)
what do you reckon, guys?
If you think that is an offer that you cant resist, then take it, but if you dont want to part with it because this bike is a statement about you and what you like (and dont like) then tell them thanks for the generous offer but no thanks.
Your bike is now a very personal one, you cant buy this bike straight out of the shop, it screams YOU, everytime you ride it, so if someone is really keen all they want is a copy what you have done.
Even if I see someone else owning this bike, it will allways be 'Melvins'
Mmick
I think you should have sold it to me for $10k when you dropped it, it would have saved you so much drama..
Z...
What are you going to replace it with ??? for 20k your going to need to start blinging the new ride all lover again.
But i must admit 20K is good money for her, you can buy an low km S4Rs for that today. [thumbsup]
Me thinks that one should think beyond what yee may pocket for said machine and consider what the replacement bike would be and how much coin you'd drop on that.
Difficult choice.

sorry melvin you and only you can make this one , have fun [bang]
I know you have been toying with the idea and you have been looking at the MV Brutale - If it is time to sell then it is time to sell - there is always another bike around the corner - thats the fun bit [cheeky]
You have been offered really good money for her - I say take the money and run! [thumbsup]
The new MV Brutale would be awesome! Or even the new 1098 Naked when it comes out.
Look at this this way - the link is a fully blinged out low mile S4RS for sale in the States - and he only expects to get $14k for it!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=003&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=130234860587&rd=1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=003&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=130234860587&rd=1)
Remember the US v AUD is almost on par - the price of Ducatis here will eventually come down (although NFI will fight it) so take advantage now and then take your time picking a new bike to trick out!
you see...upgrading to a more powerful monster is pointless as i'm not a good rider and all this extra power would not only be lost on me - it would likely get me in more strife than i care for
so this reason does not count...this bike has more of e'thing than i need and want in a power dpt
it gives me so much pleasure, it really took a lot of effort (and $$$) to get where it is today...BUT...it's 3yo, almost 20.000...NOW i don't want to sell it, don't need to sell it...but common sense says "piss it off and be happy with a bucks you collect"
...BUT AGAIN...as far as my bike goes - common sense never did apply...if it did, i wouldn't have spent +15K on a bling alone
......hence my dilemma
hey Melvin,
your 803 is one of the best turned out bikes in this forum and is intrinsically and uniquely your's, a piece of yourself if you will (sounds a bit too deep and thoughtful doesn't it) I wouldn't sell it, I'd seriously consider just adding more bikes to family rather than selling off !!! ;D ;D
Melvin,
is there any other bike that gets your pulse going?
still dreamin of the Brutale? any other Ducati does it for you?
if you can't express your passion through another bike, why bother?
Spider
Rob don't do it!
Tempting though. [roll]

Ditto Mick....... Melvin it will always be "Melvin's" bike.....
But the lure of a new project is always tempting..........
Good luck with what ever you do.......
no no no Melvin don't , i only know you by your bike, if you sell it and i see it again ths could go wrong for me. don't do it.
Sell it mate, invest the money - commonwealt bank is offering between 8 and8.4%
Melvin knows better than to listen to a troll, so go away

now that's what i call the power of (female) persuasion...hoping that should you see my bike you will know it's me and it will go all right for you, jukie; i think i will say NO to this generous offer...betty, you stay out of it ;)
Melvin,
Keep it........
When there is a bike you really really must have, then sell it.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Bret
and that's exactly what i'm also thinking - sell it for what? there is nothing (within my budget) what i really want. and to go up the scale just for the sake of it? what for
i was coming back tonight from bar italia and thinking that THIS bike makes me so happy...why do i even bother thinking of selling?
...the only reason is because there is an envelope with $20K waiting for me...it's so tempting but purely from the financial point of view
...but i've never been gordon gekko - so why start now?.................the bike stays [thumbsup]
Well done Melvin. You've made the right decision I think. [thumbsup]
Last night was only the second time I've seen it, the time before it was in bits at Flywheels.
It is a beautiful bike, probably goes like the clappers and sounds awesome!

Although this tool guy sounds like a geek he is right, if it is cash you looking for, refinance the amount you need. get the cash and keep the ride 8% is not a bad rate , [thumbsup]

That's the thing, in my opinion. Unless there's something you really want to change about your bike (and I'm pretty sure there isn't), I find it hard to believe you'll be able to replace _that_ bike with something that'll give you that same feeling of satisfaction for anythong like $20k.
big
I've had mates who have had to have the latest you beaut , all singing, all dancing two wheeled piece of sex on wheels (percieved ;D) and gotten rid of their current bike that have had for a little while and had personalised and come to regard an almost alive part of the family sorta. ;)
Only to be extremely disappointed by a relatively souless, unadorned machine?? ???
Its a sweet looking piece of work, and from what you have written you have a connection with it that probably wont be replicated by another bike in that way. :-\
If you have any doubts......................DONT!!!!! [moto]
Bit late on all this but I think you just need to look a little into the future:
Will you replace it? No is not a problem, yes could be a big problem
Will you be happy with the replacement? Yes is not a problem, no could be a big problem
Will you 'bling' the new machine? No is not a problem, yes could be a big problem
Do you feel the need for a new 'project'? No may leave you in no-mans land, yes could be the answer/justification you are looking for
So, even though $20k seems like a lot for a S2R 800, is it a lot for your bike? There is a lot of passion in that bike and it could leave a big hole (I'm thinking broken heart type loss, but maybe not). To replace the bike and then 'personalise it' is going to make the $20k seem too little I feel. But these are all questions only you can answer.
In terms of it always being Melvin's bike I can give an example of this in action. The Boss' Dad had a sports car in the 50's & early 60's - when the family arrived he needed to upgrade to a four seater, the guy that bought it still owns it. This car was 'introduced' to me (not by a family member) as Keith's car - even though he hadn't owned for 45 years and the guy that has owned it ever since was within earshot. Bloody brilliant.
guys, all of what has been said only confirms my gut feeling; guess i wanted to hear it out loud

good. all is right in the world again. [thumbsup]
Excellent.......
Will you buy a new item of bling to celebrate the keeping of the machine.
I'm thinking a spa and some titanium frame plugs for that tail chop.....
Melvin - coming in a bit late here (bloody work getting in the way again). Good call mate. [thumbsup] Cash is only plastic (used to be only paper...), and none of us can take any of it with us. Life is about the experience along the way, and sounds to me like your experieince with your bike is all fun. Stick with the fun while you have it! ducsport
