I don't need the steel ones...and my budget is really getting stretched. But my fiber plates are roached.
Also, opinions on best value aftermarket parts?
thanks
people say suzuki gs400 or 450 ones fit, search on ducati ms ss forum.
Is this the thread you're referring to, Brad? I noticed you posted in it.

These friction plates are CHEAP on eBay...you may have just saved me some of my hard earned cash, my friend.

Any drawbacks? There has to be some groans of disapproval from some ppl here I am sure...
if your friction plates are that worn there's a good chance the steels have some warping.
also, some manufacturers use more or less plates and different styles of steel plates.
they have to match.
i doubt anyone will sell them seperate.
In my experience the sureflex alloy clutch pack is the best deal for the $ spent. That and a lightened steel basket. That way the basket lasts a LONG time and the only bit you have to replace is the alloy plates when they get super duper noisy.
Unlike the situation I have now with steel frictions and steel basket and the basket is FKD.
My old sps was a bomb with the lightened alloy frictions.
If you're in Melbourne Brad sells them, or if you're down Gundagai way, Ian Gowanloch sells the sureflex plates. (Italspares, Adelong) +61 (2) 69462626.
But if you're stateside, I have absolutely no f-ing clue where you'd get them :D
the thickness of the plates may influence your assembled pack and how many of each plate you can run. the surflex sintered steel packs (oem in sp/sps/r bikes for a long time) always had the thinnest steels, all 1.5mm. the std curved plate is 1.5mm also, std steel plate 2mm.
if the std steels are warped it'll drag generally. checking them on a flat surface is fine. adding a second curved plate to most of them will often make them drag too. whereas i have seen 1098 dp slippers that need 4 curved plates to make them work nicely.
some thoughts on the gs pack on ebay. never tried this idea either, heard of a few people who have.
it's designed as a wet clutch, how well will it work dry?
it's a us$31 plate set made in china. how confident are you?
it's a clutch pack, how hard can it be to make a decent one? not like it hasn't been done before.
you used to be able to buy them seperately, you can still buy curved plates, not sure about steels. you just need to find the old part numbers, but then again, if you needed both it was cheaper to buy a pack.
