Title: Corbin Seat Post by: Nash04 on April 09, 2013, 01:20:37 PM Well! Received my Corbin seat and when I tried to install it, it wouldn't latch in so after investigating the issue, noticed one of the rubber mounts on the left front side is contacting the frame where the others are about an 1/8" above the frame which is about right since it's not latch.
Has anybody else seen this? this is on my 2011 Monster 696. Trying to get in touch with Corbing but talk about being put on hold!!! Title: Re: Corbin Seat Post by: SpikeC on April 09, 2013, 07:13:06 PM All that you have to do is take the seat into the factory in California and they will fix you up. If you can not take it to them, good luck.
Title: Re: Corbin Seat Post by: cyberswine on April 10, 2013, 02:12:01 AM Yes, good luck with Corbin [bang]
Can't speak to the rubber mounts but when I first put mine on I had to move the latch post a little to make it fit. If that helps any... I got put on hold by Corbin by email, I had concerns and they just did not respond. At all. Title: Re: Corbin Seat Post by: Nash04 on April 10, 2013, 07:50:27 AM They finally answered the phone and mentioned about installing some shims under the latch pin except the pin's threads are short so you can only add so much. Will try that out once I receive my new O ring for one of the quick disconnect on the gas tank, talk about poor design.
Thanks for the info Title: Re: Corbin Seat Post by: ducpainter on April 10, 2013, 07:52:45 AM They finally answered the phone and mentioned about installing some shims under the latch pin except the pin's threads are short so you can only add so much. That's what I had to do on my M900 with a Corbin. Thanks for the info Title: Re: Corbin Seat Post by: Nash04 on April 10, 2013, 08:07:02 AM After looking at mine, you can adjust it back and forth but you can't bring it up but you can bring it down.

On the older bikes, two screws held the latch to the frame. It was possible to add a standard 6mm washer under the latch on each side and that was enough to do it. From looking at the parts .pdf you should be able to do the same. You might need longer screws, but I don't think so. But I find it strange they used a cinder block for padding Believe it or not it breaks in and becomes pretty comfy.Title: Re: Corbin Seat Post by: Nash04 on April 11, 2013, 02:55:11 PM Yeah! After it breaks in, it's real nice and comfy. Had it on my Concourse and it was great once the break-in period was done.
Title: Re: Corbin Seat Post by: Rudemouthsky on April 11, 2013, 02:57:55 PM Mines very well broken in. Have you guys ever toured on your Corbins? I don't have a beef with it on short jaunts but anything over 200 miles is hell on my cheeks
Title: Re: Corbin Seat Post by: ducpainter on April 11, 2013, 03:48:07 PM I've done 300 mile days plenty of times.
I may hurt in places afterwards, but my ass isn't one of those places. ;) Title: Re: Corbin Seat Post by: SpikeC on April 11, 2013, 06:31:06 PM The Corbin that I had on my dearly departed BMW K100 never did soften, it was a board for over 100k miles. There is a long sad story that goes with it, I still don't know why I didn't just burn the damn thing.
Title: Re: Corbin Seat Post by: Skybarney on April 11, 2013, 08:10:20 PM I have had one Corbin, It sucked so bad I bought Sargent's ever after. Still trying to figure out why I bothered with the DP "un" comfort seat.....
Title: Re: Corbin Seat Post by: cyberswine on April 11, 2013, 11:48:09 PM My Corbin remained a rock, four hours max. My Sargent, on the KLR, seems like it will be perfect. Longest day so far only six hours but felt just great. FWIW.
Title: Re: Corbin Seat Post by: RAT900 on April 12, 2013, 05:18:08 AM I never had a Corbin that didn't require minor tweaking to get set up....washers, shims and/or sliding things around
they do have the comfort level of a cinder block when new, wrap up a towel, put it on the seat and beat it with a rubber mallet once in a while In fact I finally ordered one for my 2002 900ie last week and just got the tracker number To me the Corbin has a hands-down stellar profile without the seat cowl... the scalloped tapering passenger section on the dual seat perfectly compliments the old Monster's profile and line the Sargent IMHO looks fat although it may be more comfortable but these days 3-4 hours of riding with breaks thrown in are about the extent of my old bone's endurance I'll post up next week when it shows and I mount it...scheduled to arrive next Thursday Title: Re: Corbin Seat Post by: pitbull on April 12, 2013, 06:03:44 PM I tried a corbin for about 30,000 km's on my 900 monster, including a number of long trips and it never did break in much. It was a brick when I bought it and a brick when I took it off.
I probably shouldn't say this as I will one day likely try to sell it here, but I hated every second on that f*#king thing. There's already plenty of ppl saying exactly that. Didn't stop me from buying mine. I loved, and still do, the look of the thing. Despite my hate for the corbin, nothing else works as well for the passenger. |
