Title: Rear tire install quotes Post by: Real Recognize Real on April 10, 2013, 12:24:44 PM It's about time to replace the rear tire so I called several local shops for prices. I asked for an install on the bike price and off the bike price. I figured that shops charge a premium when people bring the bike to the shop, but I was still shocked to be quoted $76. Kinda ridiculous imo and that's one of the reasons I have a rear stand.

Title: Re: Rear tire install quotes Post by: Real Recognize Real on April 10, 2013, 01:05:05 PM I understand and kinda agree if I brought in my own tire, but the $76 quote was with me purchasing one of their tires.

Title: Re: Rear tire install quotes Post by: tocino on April 10, 2013, 03:24:47 PM Damn.
Go to a WERA / CCS weekend and have someone there mount it while you watch the races (provided you call them first and order the tire). Title: Re: Rear tire install quotes Post by: The Mad King Pepe' on April 10, 2013, 04:55:19 PM no experience but this might help: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/mcy/3721274565.html (http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/mcy/3721274565.html)
Quote: "$80 mount and balance BOTH tires on the bike (I can do sport bikes, touring, dual sports. . . etc, please let me know what you have. Extra charges for cruisers may apply depending on the model of bike.) $45 for mount and balance 2 tires OFF the bike. (ie: you bring my wheels and tires only already removed from the motorcycle.) I use plastic covers on my tire iron and tire machine clamps which prevents your motorcycle rims from being scratched and I have the tools needed to balance single sided swing arm rear wheels. I am available to take on side jobs after 7 pm during the weekday and anytime on the weekend pending my schedule is clear. My shop is located in Herndon, VA near the Dulles Air and Space museum." only contact info is throught CL. Also, I think the guys in Balmer might have a tire changer machine hidden somewhere ;-) Title: Re: Rear tire install quotes Post by: Real Recognize Real on April 10, 2013, 07:57:49 PM Thanks for the info, but I'll probably take bike to Cyclemax since it's located about 10 mins from work and there OTD prices are reasonable.
Going forward, I'd gladly contribute to the CAM No-Mar fund if the logistics could be worked out. Title: Re: Rear tire install quotes Post by: zooom on April 11, 2013, 06:26:36 AM Damn. Go to a WERA / CCS weekend and have someone there mount it while you watch the races (provided you call them first and order the tire). or you can get fresh DOT takeoffs !!! Title: Re: Rear tire install quotes Post by: Slide Panda on April 11, 2013, 09:21:03 AM Cross Roads will do a mount and balance for $35 - with the wheel off the bike.
And yeah -the Balmer crew have a No-mar. So make nice with them. Title: Re: Rear tire install quotes Post by: tocino on April 11, 2013, 09:32:32 AM or you can get fresh DOT takeoffs !!! I wouldn't recommend race compound tires on the street, especially used-up ones. YMMV. Title: Re: Rear tire install quotes Post by: ducati culture on April 11, 2013, 10:19:30 AM I went to colemans - Alex, va I believe I paid 25.00 off the bike [Dolph]
Title: Re: Rear tire install quotes Post by: JoeP on April 11, 2013, 11:12:55 AM I paid $20 each tire, off the bike at Brooks Cycle Center in Chantilly.
Title: Re: Rear tire install quotes Post by: sleepyJ on April 13, 2013, 10:39:00 AM +1 for brooks cycle center! the owner is very nice too. just take off your wheel and bring it in
Title: Re: Rear tire install quotes Post by: militar3rd on April 14, 2013, 10:43:20 AM Yeah I took my front tires to Crossroads Cycle in Falls church and man... They initially quoted $40 for the installation of rear but i ended up paying $45.
To be honest, I'd rather had done the tire change myself... BY HAND. Anything around $30-40. no more. Is a deal imo. Title: Re: Rear tire install quotes Post by: tocino on May 19, 2013, 06:08:17 AM I brought my wheels and 2 tires to Cycles of Silver Spring. 56$ to put on the tires and balance them. They will unmount / mount the wheels on the bike for an additional charge.
