Title: A warning about "rideitmoto" company
Post by: malamikigo on April 15, 2013, 02:20:01 PM
So after deciding that the "rizoma reverse retro" style mirrors were what I wanted for my bike, I ordered this set of mirrors from a company called "rideitmoto".  I went with them because the Rizomas were out of my budget but I didn't want the cheap ebay $20 mirrors as I figured they'd fail to impress.

I found a set from rideitmoto for $80, and decided this was a good compromise, figured they would be decent quality.

http://rideitmoto.com/products.php?id=15 (http://rideitmoto.com/products.php?id=15)

The mirrors arrived and I was very happy with the fit and finish.  The cnc'd parts and the mirror glass were comparable to the Rizomas that I've seen.  I mounted them up, and away we go.

2 short rides later, the right side mirror is coming loose.  "No problem", I think. "I must have just not tightened it down enough.  I go to tighten it some more, and it just won't....keeps spinning endlessly.  I unscrew it and pull the mirror off, and see little metal bits inside the handlebar - the nut in the bar end mount had completely stripped. The threads were gone altogether.  It's hard to get a picture of, but you can sort of see here the lack of threads:

So at this point I figured I'd just order a new one off their website.  I searched, it's not offered on their website.

So I contacted them via their "leave a message" thing on their website.

No reply.

So I sent an email direct to their listed "gmail" address.

No reply.

So I went last resort and actually added their "sales rep" to msn messenger, since they had it listed there.  A few days later, the address was listed as online and I was able to finally have a conversation with someone.  It went as follows:

Quote
7:11:30 PM Matt: Hi, is this a RideitMoto agent?

7:11:41 PM rideitmoto@hotmail.com: yes

7:13:06 PM Matt: Oh, great.  I had sent a couple emails to RideitMoto but hadn't gotten a reply back yet so I added this email to msn to see if i could get a response that way

7:14:51 PM Matt: this is what the email said:

7:15:12 PM Matt: "I have installed a set of your "CNC Bar End Mirrors". *I love the mirrors, the CNC part and the glass seems to be fantastic quality. *However, I have unfortunately had an issue with the included universal bar-end cap. *

The aluminum nut that the bolt screws into seems to be made of very soft material, and the bolt has actually shredded the threads right out of the nut over the course of a couple rides since I installed them. As such, the mirror can no longer be tightened down in the nut, as it just spins since the threads are all ripped out.

Are you able to offer a replacement bar-end cap? *I'm very happy with the mirrors other than this issue and would love to keep using them if I can get it mounted again."

7:16:08 PM rideitmoto@hotmail.com: ok, i see

7:16:17 PM rideitmoto@hotmail.com: so you need a bar end cap?

7:16:27 PM Matt: Yea, everything else is still fine.

7:18:58 PM rideitmoto@hotmail.com: ok, got it.

7:20:08 PM rideitmoto@hotmail.com: the price for this bar end cap is $10, plus $18 for shipping, totally $28, if ok, you can send payment to our paypal account: rideitmoto@gmail.com and leave your shipping address and phone number in the paypal Note.

7:22:48 PM Matt: Is there any sort of warranty on the part? It seems like it shouldn't have stripped, it was only on the bike for a week.  If it's going to cost $28 to get a replacement then I will probably just find a local replacement.

7:24:36 PM rideitmoto@hotmail.com: i don't know why...but you are the first case we met about the problem of this bar end cap.

7:24:59 PM rideitmoto@hotmail.com: or do you need levers, in this case, you can save the shipping cost

7:27:10 PM Matt: I didn't have plans to get levers.  what is the cost of them?

7:27:58 PM rideitmoto@hotmail.com: $79

7:31:55 PM Matt: Thanks anyway, I don't need levers though.  If you have not had a problem with the end cap before, is it possible I just got one that is faulty?  The other one I have seems totally fine.  If it's not something that is happening regularly, would you consider to replace it under warranty?

[rideitmoto showing as still online]

7:43:11 PM Matt: Hi? Are you there?

8:11:06 PM Matt: Hello?

8:31:17 PM Matt: Is anyone there?

So basically as soon as I asked about warranty on the part, he stopped replying to me.  Since then, the msn has been online several more times and I have tried to start a conversation but have not had any replies since.  I sent a couple more polite emails and have not received *anything* back from them.

All I can conclude at this point is that it's a shit company that could not care less about keeping their customers happy.  I'm not really pissed off or anything cause it's really only a $10 part, but I just think their customer service is a joke, and offering to ship me a tiny bar end mount for $18 shipping cost is ridiculous when they should be offering it free.  And then trying to upsell me on levers to save on the shipping?!  LOL.  Why would I buy more product from them as they're not even standing behind the first product.

Coles Notes:

- guy buys mirrors
- mirror mount falls apart after two rides
- company does not reply to email or contact form
- speaks with them over msn messenger of all places
- will not warranty, offers to sell me the part ($10) and ship it for $18 (!!)
- I ask again about warranty, conversation ends
- all further attempts to contact via msn, email, etc, have been ignored.

Consider yourselves warned.

crying with joy...or at least about the extra pounds you'll gain eating the snacks that come with the parts...

for your mirrors, the best bet are the Rizoma's; the CRG's would work but you might need to 'fill up' the mirror mount hole with a thicker plastic ring/shim, being there myself

So despite being around the corner from Moto Wheels is Jeff the go to guy for carbon bling?  I thought I was gonna leave it alone but then I bought Zards and plastic looks silly now.  [bang]

^^Agreed.

Also, on my 78 Honda I bought cheap bar end mirrors because I didn't want to spend money on parts for a junker bike.  Exact same thing happened---two rides in they loosened and were stripped.  So I bought another cheap brand, same problem.  You see where this is going... Lesson I learned was invest in the good stuff (doesn't have to be the greatest, but at least good) and you actually save money in the long run.

I think you're pretty safe with Moto Wheels (they're a DMF sponsor after all).  But as I'm not around the corner my first choice would be Jeff @ Monsterparts coz he ships stuff to me as if i was around the corner.  Awesome  [thumbsup]

I'm north of ungeheuer, in Indonesia  ;D and I also bought parts from Jeff with no problem what so ever. I only bought from other sponsor when Jeff didn't have the parts I need in stock, and the store I bought from was recommended by Jeff.

+1 for Jeff  BUT I did buy the Rideitmoto exact mirrors the OP referred to a couple years ago.  I knew from posts on another site that the bar ends and mounts were useless.  I purchased Rizoma bar ends from Jeff at the same time and even when combining the two prices it was still a great deal.  The mirrors have held up well, I think there were posts on this forum that I contributed to at the time.  To flog a dead horse yet again, I got the same kind of electronic response from Corbin over an issue so no surprise a one man business in Hong Kong is not responsive.

I just sent Jeff an ask regarding a carbon fiber package for my 2013 Evo.  Decided I want everything they can offer except the headlight top (need a full ring) and the painted parts.  Lots of stuff on the website is back ordered but we will see what he can come up with.    [drink]

I'm happy with the mirrors themselves, no reason to shell out for Rizomas.  I'll buy their bar ends, stick with my RideitMoto mirrors, and still have lots of extra cash left over.

Until the mirror falls off and they turn purple. In a couple of months.

^^^^^^^ YUP!   Personally I would rather spend more money buying the good stuff than buying bad stuff three times.  It is always cheaper to buy the good stuff the first time.  Or you could always just keep the stock stuff.

IMO when I see a Duc with cheap parts bolted on it makes me a little bit sad.   :-\

I have to piggy back on all the other replies about Jeff at monsterparts.  He is an awesome guy.  You know you bought from a good company when the owner personally calls you back on your cell to help walk you through the install process on a part you bought.  He has all my business from now on.  Bow down beaches!   [bow_down]
