Title: A Bridgestone MotoGP tire weighs how much?

WTF?
20 lbs?

I just weighed a Pirelli Diablo SuperCorsa SP 180/55-17, ~12 lbs.

I wonder if we can get confirmation on that number... I mean, it is being said by one of their competitors.

And I guess thats those tires have such amazing grip?  It's at the expense of weight?

I wonder how much they weigh at the end of a race vs. the beginning - in theory, I suppose you could have an exceptionally thick tread of very sticky/soft compound and just slough it off over race distance. I can't imagine that's how it works, as that would create as many problems as it might solve - heat build up, radically different geometry at the end of the race vs. the beginning are the first two I can envision, and my imagination's not that good.

It's a PVC pipe with sticky rubber molded around it...  ;D

They don't hit m/any bumps/potholes, so tire-weight might not be as huge a factor as it is on street bikes wrt suspension/damping...and mags/CF wheels help, too.

Racing slicks seem to have heavy carcass and side wall construction to handle low tyre pressures and deformation for edge grip, braking contact patch  and traction. There is alot of meat on them too rubber wise. My Pirelli SBK tyres on my Gixxer typically run 32 fr/27r and that's measured after one hour on the warmers :o!
