I personally think you ruined a piece of art.  Sorry, was that too harsh?  I love the new design of these fenders and am currently working on putting one on my older monster.

Just curious... but why did you decide to cut the back of the fender off?  Seems like you are going for the function>form look with your bike, so this seems like a step in the wrong direction.

Just my $0.02

"ruined art"? wow.  well I couldn't disagree with this dude more.  That fender looks sweet!  I may consider doing this on my evo.  Would you mind explaining how you did it for us numbskulls?  Mmm...now the gears are turning; maybe pick up a carbon fiber fender and experiment with that?

geez, it's not like he stuck a bull whip up his backside and called it "art." It's a fender.

I don't think that it looks bad at all. But you know what they say "opinions are like trash cans, everyone has one and they all stink."

I guess I was too harsh.  Its just my opinion that this fender is one of the more attractive designs out there.  I was just bummed to see one cut in half.

Oh well.

Now use the other one to make a "1/8" fairing (bigger than a bikini fairing but smaller than a 1/4 fairing).
Changing something from mass production to something unexpected...that is art.
[thumbsup]

Not having ABS...

Are those brake lines rigid enough to not come in contact with the tyre now that the clip from the missing part of the fender is gone?

I like the look.  [thumbsup]

Not too harsh at all - that's the beauty of this kind of stuff; it's all so unique and individualized.  What I love you may hate, and vise verses.

I considered doing carbon as well!  I decided though for a first run I would rather mess up my stocker than a brand new $200 carbon fender.  The process was simple: A dremel, sandpaper, and a hand file is all I used.  Cut along the character lines with a cut wheel - get closer with a sanding wheel and then use the sandpaper and file to perfect the line. Since you keep all the character lines it looks like it came that way from the factory if you didnt know better.

The brake lines are actually the rigid ones - they wont get anywhere near the tire at any point.  The ABS sensor line is flimsy and is basically zip tied to the brake line so no worries if you don't have ABS.

I was just looking at the fender on my evo and on the left side there is a wire guide thing that is attached to the inside of the fender for the ABS line.   I assume your 796 is the same.  What did you do with that thing? it looks like you cut it off?
