Title: carbonworld.de exhaust pipe heat guard
Post by: Bishamon on April 28, 2013, 12:02:22 PM
So, I purchased a carbon exhaust pipe heat guard from carbonworld.de last fall and I was finally going to install it, but it included two nylon washers as well as two of what appear to be black rectangular adhesive pieces that are slightly larger than the guard.  Has anyone else installed one of these, and if so, on which side of the guard do you place the nylon washers and what did you do with the black strips?  Here is the piece I am talking about:

I have sent a request for details to carbonworld, but I have yet to hear back and the language barrier may be an issue.

The Nylon washers go on top of the carbon.  The adhesive strips are in case you want to just cover the stock guard.  I think you are supposed to remove the stock guard and install the carbon guard in it's place.

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong  [drink]

They have a video showing how it's to be installed:

Thanks!

I don't know why I didn't notice the video on their site.

Humm...factory instructions route the parts different then in the video, installed like in the video leave the het shield wiggly.

The fiber washer should install between the bracket and the het shield. The metal spacer should install with the wide flat end out, narrow end in towards the threads.

those adhesive strips may be the heat shielding and needs to go between the carbon and pipe

That was my thinking as well; they aren't shown in the video, and I have still not heard back from carbonworld.  They would need to be trimmed and have the hole/slot cut out as well, if that is their purpose.

I heard back from carbonworld:

"The black strips are aluminum for heat protection.

The washer is to install behind the heat shield. "

I guess I will have to trim one of the aluminum strips to fit before installing the carbon fiber piece.
