Title: Lightest front discs?
Post by: SpikeC on May 03, 2013, 07:57:01 PM
I have an irrational urge to lighten the front wheel of my M1100S, and I was wondering if anyone had any idea of who makes the lightest brake discs. (Functional, that is!)

Not sure if there the lightest but I put Galfer rotors on a 2009 696. The stock Brembos weighed 1lb more then the Galfers thats each rotor, so I lost 2lbs of rotating mass and noticed a nice improvement in turning with no loss in braking power if anything the Galfer rotors and pads feel and brake better then stock. I think for money the Galfers are big bang for the buck.

bolts are another way to lighten that rotating mass.

TI bolts drop a lot over the stock

and i think you can change out the rotor buttons as well

then go after unsprung mass like axle, caliper bolts

that is of course after wheels which everyone says is the biggest bang for the buck.  I just don't have the bucks  [bang]

Thanks a bunch for the info! In looking about some places do not have the Galphers available for my bike, butt I found one place that has them with gold colored buttons to match my Ohlins forks!
