Title: Customizing vertical dual headlights Post by: awax1969 on May 07, 2013, 12:02:49 PM So... I am working on a project to change the current looks of my 796 into vertical dual headlights. I will buy couple of aftermarket headlights together with couple of brackets...
My current problems would be the following: 1- What size of brackets should I buy (I currently don't have my bike so can not measure and will buy brackets on-line) 2- What shall I do in regard to the light indicators!! any ideas? thanks Awax (http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a550/awax1969/ed329cdebcd88040f15bc0a29348d1b1_2_zps773c8b33.jpg) (http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a550/awax1969/MailAttachment_zps6f99df51.gif) (http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a550/awax1969/Slide1_zpsbdd40089.jpg) Title: Re: Customizing vertical dual headlights Post by: kopfjÀger on May 07, 2013, 09:00:57 PM Don't do it.

Title: Re: Customizing vertical dual headlights Post by: zooom on May 08, 2013, 09:56:27 AM there is one guy here whose screename starts with a "c" IIRC ( celli maybe? ) who has a stacked custom headlight that he made from a lamborghini headlight....but I have also seen where someone chopped the hell out of and customized a 749/999 headlight also....

Title: Re: Customizing vertical dual headlights Post by: Stormtrooper on May 09, 2013, 08:42:37 AM Do it! I like the vertical arrangement - it looks very industrial. I looked into this setup when doing my custom headlight and came up with a fairly good solution. I would love for someone to make this a reality. Here it is:
Oberon makes this dual headlight kit: (http://www.oberon-performance.com/acatalog/Billet_Headlight_All_Black_Standard.jpg) Pay no attention to the actual headlights here you would only use the two fork clamp mounts (yes they will sell them separately - about $80 if I recall). Mount the clamps staggered on your forks with the higher one upside down. Now that you have the mounts you need to decide on a headlight. You will have limited vertical space so you need very compact units. You can go with small projectors like you posted or small LEDs like these: http://www.rigidindustries.com/sr-m-surface-mount-led-lights-s/234.htm (http://www.rigidindustries.com/sr-m-surface-mount-led-lights-s/234.htm) http://www.gorecon.com/product.php?pk=532&pname=Part-264505CL-10-Watt-3000-Lumen-LED-Driving-Reverse-Light-Kit-Clear-Round-Lens-Black-Housing. (http://www.gorecon.com/product.php?pk=532&pname=Part-264505CL-10-Watt-3000-Lumen-LED-Driving-Reverse-Light-Kit-Clear-Round-Lens-Black-Housing.) Mount the headlights on the end of the fork clamps with the higher one upside down. Swivel and adjust them to get them as stacked and tight as possible. They may be slightly staggered in the end depending on the length of those fork clamps. This would make for a pretty clean look as the headlights would kinda be floating there between the forks. You have to use some imagination here but it would looks something like this - (http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n206/jmlenz/Screenshots_2013-05-09-09-34-16_zps4ab46010.png) (http://s113.photobucket.com/user/jmlenz/media/Screenshots_2013-05-09-09-34-16_zps4ab46010.png.html) Title: Re: Customizing vertical dual headlights Post by: DexterMorgan on May 09, 2013, 07:28:18 PM I am totally dumb when it comes to hooking stuff like this up. I would totally pull the trigger on this if I could find someone to customize it for me...
Title: Re: Customizing vertical dual headlights Post by: awax1969 on May 10, 2013, 03:29:35 AM @Stormtrooper .. people like you make life easier. Thanks man... [clap]

Guys once I am dont I will sure share the photos with you [laugh] Title: Re: Customizing vertical dual headlights Post by: Stormtrooper on May 10, 2013, 07:34:51 AM @Stormtrooper .. people like you make life easier. Regarding the blinkers; yes you need those. Here are a few clean options: Oberon bar end LEDs (I run these and love 'em!) (http://motowheels.com/images/F26713742.jpg) MBW fork wrap around LEDs (http://www.sscustomsstore.com/uploads/92711/images/249053/LED-Fork-Billet-Wrap-Arounds_-_Copy.jpg) Joker Machine LEDs (http://northweststuff.com/cart/images/lights_forkmount-LED.jpg) Title: Re: Customizing vertical dual headlights Post by: sullytl71 on May 10, 2013, 10:15:13 AM Stormtrooper, I love this concept! I have been debating doing the Rigid Dually like you did, or the stacked like awax is looking to do. I got in touch with Crime Scene Choppers and they said they're having some of the brackets you had made crinkle black powder coated so I may order one and start with that idea. Nice work man! [clap]

[clap] Nice. Rigid recently introduced this model, the SR-Q2. If I were to do it again I would use this one instead of the D2. Or would it have to be stacked vertically?
Title: Re: Customizing vertical dual headlights Post by: awax1969 on May 10, 2013, 10:29:47 AM The Brackets above "the two fork clamp mounts" which @Stormtrooper posted seems to be great BUT:
what is the size of the clamps relative to the center of the two forks. I am a little bit worried that the vertical headlights would be off centered ... anybody knows what the is the exact measurement of the space between the two forks? [bang] The forks as I heard are 43mm Title: Re: Customizing vertical dual headlights Post by: sullytl71 on May 10, 2013, 10:44:33 AM Nice. Rigid recently introduced this model, the SR-Q2. Doesn't that mean you'd be getting less light? Forgive me if I'm wrong (and I usually tend to be), just thought I'd ask. [bang] The forks as I heard are 43mm The distance between the forks is about 6.5" if I recall. For alignment; you would just rotate the fork clamps on the fork axis in order to get the headlight vertically aligned...easy peezy. Forks are 50mm O.D. Also, I may have been reading it wrong, but does this SR-Q2 throw 1568 lumens compared to the 2600 with the Dually 2? Doesn't that mean you'd be getting less light? Forgive me if I'm wrong (and I usually tend to be), just thought I'd ask. The SR-Q2 throws 3030 lumens...more powerfull than my D2 at 2600 lumens. And YES it would fit the Crimescene mount as-is! The width of the SR-Q2 is 5" which would fit nicely between the forks. This would look better than my square D2 IMO. Whenever I can get the bracket from Crime Scene I'll be reaching out to you Stormtrooper for some help and hints with the install. Thanks for the great idea! Title: Re: Customizing vertical dual headlights Post by: Raux on May 22, 2013, 06:58:01 AM Forks are 50mm at top triple 54 at lower triple so depends where your mount clamps as to sizing
