Post by: Tricknology on May 18, 2013, 07:10:16 PM
Anyone else eagerly awaiting some epic road racing?  [drool]

Additionally, it seems I've struck out trying to find a way to easily watch said racing. Anyone have any suggestions for ways to watch the IOM, BSB, WSBK, etc?

question is....does Guy Martin finally win a race this year?...and does Mr McPint remain as king of the hill again?

Just hoping my buddy Brandon does well this year.
Last year was a dismal first year in Superbike...crashed down the mountain while giving JM room to pass. His own fault. He was (mostly) fine.
He also did the Macau GP last year again.

Want to get in the IOM spirit? Listen to the song at this SOUP link; find some good speakers or headphones too - it's worth it just for the first few seconds of audio.

Seriously. I'm pretty sure he's got some bad juju with the IOM. It's always something, innit?

...and does Mr McPint remain as king of the hill again?
I'm betting he starts to fade this year.  Top five, probably a podium or two, but no mas.

Sucks...

3 of the last 4 deaths were at Ballacrye....not a good trend.

I really enjoy the TT, but when there are as many as 4 fatalities some years, I start wondering whether it's worth it.

The question of whether it is worth it is up to the riders to decide. That's part of what makes it such a great event. No one forces anyone to ride, and they know the risks going in.

I'm for the TT and don't want it to go away, so I'm going to play a little bit of devils advocate:
BUT
What about the onlooker/non-rider deaths?
Are they supposed to accept the risks?

First sneak peak at the MotoCzysz E1pc prepped for the TT:

More info -- including some interesting bits about how they've gone to conventional forks, but stuck with Michael Czyxz' ideas about tunable lateral flex by tricks in the triples. No pix of that, alas...

Some of Brandon's updates...

Monday: Quick update on the most embarrassing "crash" of my racing career. Bike got stuck in scrutineering and we didn't have time to get warmers on. Pulled out onto the slip road to enter the course and rear tire just stepped out into threw me off. I'm ok...bike is ok just some minor stuff needed. Shit happens, this just happened to be in front of a lot of people. Oh well.. — at TT Grandstand.

IMed with him afterwards and he was laughing about it.

Tuesday: Practice cancelled tonight due to inclement weather. Took a lap of the course in the van just to get my head in gear a bit. Weather is looking good for the rest of the week though! Now for some food — with Joel XXXXXX at The Famous Creg Ny Baa.

Wednesday: Well, practice went alright. Got 2 laps in at least. Course was 70-80% damp and/or completely wet. They were just un-timed sessions for those of us nutters that wanted to get out. It was nice to get out on track but really looking forward to some actual good dry track time. Crossing our fingers for tomorrow. — at TT Grandstand.

This is one of my favorite motorcycle racing videos from the Isle of Man - especially the first 30 seconds but the whole video is pretty cool.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ourWLPWtv0Y (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ourWLPWtv0Y)

It's an inherently dangerous course, but I guess that's also part of its appeal.

That was without a doubt one of the best short, motorcycle road racing videos I have ever seen! [thumbsup] [beer] [bow_down] [popcorn]

Going to the IOM has always been on my bucket list. What an awesome event! Just re-read Leanings by Peter Egan recently and his story of he and his wife visiting the IOM during race week really started the juices flowing again. Someday... before I push up daisys. ;)

Yeah, watch Dana Brown's "Dust to Glory" semi-documentary of the Baja 1000. He's Bruce Brown's son (of On Any Sunday fame...). It's amazing to see how close the fans get to 100+mph Super Trucks, etc. Crazy shit!

You have to have a screw loose to do what those guys do at the TT.  I'd crap my pants riding those roads at the speeds they do.

Can someone explain the difference between the classes to me?  I've searched but haven't found a complete explanation.  This is what I've got so far, though not sure if any of this is right:

Superbike [spec or purpose-built bikes?]
Supersport [1000cc production bikes]
Superstock [600cc production bikes]
Lightweight [250cc]
Ultra Lightweight [125cc]
Senior [??]
Zero [electric/zero emissions]
Sidecar [sidecar]

I think super stock is showroom spec 1000.
Supersport is race spec 600.

Senior is back to super bike if I recall.
I think it's just tradition which separates
Superbike from senior?

Great job by McGuinness in the senior TT showing the youngster how it is still done.  Dunlop did show great form in the early laps, but I wonder if he had a moment off camera.

Not really. He has an ego about 17 miles wide...but then so would I if I had 13lb titanium balls and something broken in my head that allowed me to race the TT.  [laugh]

This one, where they early apex the left, run wide on exit, and end up with this hairball line into the right.
They hit the grass on the inside, and it kicks the rig up, and you can hear the engine spin up 'cause the tire's off the ground.
