Title: Need ideas for a custom tail light bracket/mount Post by: Rudemouthsky on May 21, 2013, 07:30:26 AM I'm stuck...been staring at my chopped tail for an hour trying to figure out how to mount my new tail light.
as most of you know, on an 01-06 monster, once you chop your tail you are left with those 2 holes that hold the subfender in place. Most brackets utilize these holes and that's what I must do. But nothing is dawning on me. This is the light I need to fit: (http://img.jpcycles.com/zoom/340-391_A.jpg) not my bike, but just to give you the idea of what I'm working with: (http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/holes_zps4f1afcfe.jpg~original) Any bright ideas? Anything without the crimp in the corner will break eventually (metal fatigue).

Use rubber bushings everywhere there's a bolt to absorb the shock and eliminate the risk of metal fatigue. Hrrrm

I would make a piece that fills the gap around the seat out of some sheet steel (formed to match the curve of the seat) and IIRC the fender bolts stick up a fair bit (if they don't stick up enough, replace them with something longer). Then cut a hole for the back of the taillight to grab on to with a hole saw. That hides the wires, too. And I'm not sure I understand how you're suggesting the tail light will mount...the back, through the hole, held on by friction? Thanks dude
Title: Re: Need ideas for a custom tail light bracket/mount Post by: Dirty Duc on May 21, 2013, 10:29:20 AM The bolts that hold the undertray come through those captive nuts you circled. add a nut on top of that to hold the filler piece. The tail light is mounted to that bracket by a large nut on the back (not really obvious in the picture, but it sure looks like it), remove that nut, install tail light through both brackets, install nut to secure the whole mess to the filler piece.
