DMF brainstrust request for my
Monster S2R1000
planning on swapping out the lines for Hypermotard oil cooler lines so they route away from the belts.
Mine are rusting at the fixings and look nasty so it will be a cosmetic improvement on two fronts.
My questions are :
Would the lines from an '08 Multistrada also fit as they look similar to the Hyper and route the same way,
there is one at my local wreckers and the lines are cheap.
Any other models compatible ?
Is it as simple as undo and replace ,
do I need to drop the oil ,
any replacement of gaskets/O rings recommended
what do the fixings need to be torqued too?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated .
I just changed mine... i actually built my own using black nylon braided from summit racing and some black aluminum fittings (and metric-to-AN adapters)... If you take that line off with the oil in, you're going to have a bad time. ;D
I'm pretty sure the Multistrada lines are quite a bit longer than the Hyper lines.
A bit of oil will come out of the lines and cooler, but you don't have to drain the engine.
Check oil level after you're done, top off as necessary.
The fittings on the hoses don't need to be very tight, the seal is accomplished with O-rings.
You can go the custom route as Corey did.
*Always* use a wrench on the oil cooler (or it's fitting) to react against torque when tightening or loosening the hose fitting.
Otherwise you run a substantial risk of tearing a seam on the cooler.
