My forks need help. They are the stock non-adjustable Showas. I really don't want to mess around with changing out the front end and would like to make these work for now. Would my best bet be Race Tech valves and springs? I've researched this on the forum and it seems to be the way to go. I weigh about 215 with gear. I've replaced springs, seals and oil on my previous bikes but never valves. Is this something that is fairly easy? Also where would you buy them at? I'm located in Portland, Oregon. Thanks.
The early Showas can be made quite good with springs and valves.

Is it as easy as installing the valves and springs and be on your way? Or is there shim adjustments to do? Is there a good how to on the installation?
This 'how to' goes a bit farther than you need to, as it's changing the rebound circuit, but it gives you a good idea of what's involved:

The rebound circuit mod work starts at step 4, you will need to remove the plastic 'hydraulic travel stop' however.
You can skip the rest of step 4, other than 4g.
You can do 5a and 5b if you like, not mandatory.
Then continue, but skip 8 and 9.
RaceTech will provide a 'one time only' online guide for what shim stack you need.
I've generally gone a bit softer than they recommend.
As an alternative, you could find a local suspension house to do the job.
You can give me a shout as well, remove the forks and UPS 'em to me.
I just got off the phone with Race Tech. They recommended the type 1 kit for street use. They also recommended .90 springs for the front(I'm 215lbs). I think I'll try and install them myself. Thanks for the help. I might still need some once I get my springs. I need to post some pictures of my Monster. I've been building it off and on for the last 2+ years. I'm close to being done.
Race Tech's recommendations of .90 springs for my 900SS and also for my VFR were a bit soft. .95's were much better. YMMV.
What about the marzocci forks? I've never heard a nothing other than you can do springs.

Maybe I should try .95?
