Title: Installing Termis/filter/ECU myself?
Post by: DexterMorgan on May 25, 2013, 07:30:15 PM
So, I did some searching on the forum as well as the google machine,  ;D  and could not find anything about how to do this.  Now I know that the pipes themselves are very easy to take off and replace with the new ones.  The thing i do not know if i can do myself is swapping the ecu and filter....has anyone done this that can give me tips/tricks on where they are located and what tools i would need to get the job done?

The dealer said they would do it but i have been so busy lately and the dealer isn't exactly right around the corner.  I have some free time this weekend and wanted to know if i could get it done?

Thanks in advance.

Even if you're not super mechanically inclined its a pretty easy procedure. Do you have basic mechanics tools? Normal metric 6 pt sockets, metric hex bit Allen sockets. In my opinion a torque wrench is not really necessary for what you're looking to do. Just snug.

For the air filter and ECU you will need to:

-remove the tank panels
-remove the gas tank
-this will expose the ecu and airbox
-Swap the ecu's
-there is a cap on top of the airbox that --you will remove and when you pull it out there air filter is there with it
-swap filters
-reassemble

The whole procedure is easy, fast and safe(you will not brake anything, nothing can go wrong, just don't lose screws and bolts.)
And you will need just few hex keys to do the job. I also recommend disconnect left connector from battery before disconnecting and connecting new ECU. [bacon]

Ok I might try this myself then.  Thanks guys!!  Nothing special about removing the gas tank?  I heard somewhere else that I could just prop it up while I swap the ECU?  Yay or nay?

You don't need to completely remove tank. Just one bolt under seat and 1or2 at sides and you will able to move tank to the place where seat seats, it will be just enough to do job. [wine]

I put a stool next to my bike and swung to tank over to it, leaving the hoses and wires hooked up. One thing to watch is the wire from the rear lamba sensor, it sits in a clip under the tank and will prevent it from moving back off of the front mounts.

Raux, you answer this question so often that it ought be made a tech "sticky" IMO.

I did this mod a couple weeks ago.  It is not difficult at all but you might still need some minor tweaking at the dealer to get it to idle properly.

I took a quick vid of my bike with the baffles removed.
