Hi guys i got my bike back from the dealer and wanted to try my hand at changing my front rotors and pads on my 2011 m796. what i would like to know is what size torx are the bolts on the rotor. also what are the torque value for those bolts as well as the pinch bolts and axle bolt.
I bought galfer wave rotors and pads.
thanks in advance after i am done i am going to do a diy
So, I take it you haven't done this kind of project before, correct?
I'd suggest reading this first ( I wrote that about a bit more than a year ago).

Watch two videos in that thread before you start.
Here's another tutorial.

As for the torque spec, I'd recommend to get service manual for your bike. They are available online (as PDF file), sometimes for free, sometimes not (but even then, it's not so expensive. Worth spending a little bit here now if you're planning DIY stuff in the future.)
As for the size of torx screws. Are you asking the size of the bolt, or the size of the "head"?
Hi thanks for the response I will defiantly check it out before doing it. What I need is the size of the head. Thanks
if not mistaken T45
Rotor bolts are T45 and torqued at 25Nm
Axle pinch bolts are 6mm hex bit torqued at 18Nm
Axle nut is 28mm hex nut torqued to 63Nm
Caliper bolts are 8mm and torqued to 45Nm
Careful, they strip [bang]
Thanks for all the info. It was really helpful but the sent me a rotor that the diameter was to small. Gonna call them tomorrow
Some heat helps as well but not to much could mess up the paint/powder coat on the wheels.
A little bit of advice.
I used to be a playground installer in Oz and all the playground equipment use torx bolts. Well security torx bolts.
Buy a couple of bits. They are easy to break. Make sure the bit goes square into the bolt, otherwise your are in a whole world or hurt. As the others suggested use a bit of heat. Some people suggest a large soldering iron applied to the head of the bolt to loosen the Loc Tite. Just don't go silly.
If you think the bit is going to break....STOP cos there's a good chance it will.
Thanks for the advice on the torx screw. I do a lot of work on vw and Audi at home and unfortunately I am familiar an how easy they are to break lol. I put the new rotors on and everything lol. I had too pull them out and put the old ones back on .

Yes, I recently went through this (another make) and twisted the tip off of two cheap T-45s trying to remove the rear rotor. One of the bits had worked great removing all the screws from the front. A magnet pulled the broken bits out of the screw. I went to an open-late auto parts store and found a GM performance T-45 bit and it worked for me.
Well here is a photo after I installed it

Of coarse I took it back off and put the old ones back on
