Title: Clutch Noise / Oil Issue? Post by: cyberswine on June 08, 2013, 12:10:21 PM Wet clutch on my 796 suddenly started making constant noise after I changed oil and filters at 14K klicks. Previous oil change had been done by the dealer last fall for the second scheduled service (no more of them, ever!). I just put in Motul 300V full synth double ester which was recommended by a somewhat trusted source and one that I used before. I've bled the clutch, adjusted the Pazzo lever, pressure and action is great, everything works fine other than the noise which diminishes when the clutch lever is pulled in. Last resource will be to go to the dealership which is a pain, anyone have any thoughts? Clutch bedded in comfortably and objecting to the oil? I've read all the clutch threads and that suggestion has come up before...

Title: Re: Clutch Noise / Oil Issue? Post by: cyberswine on June 08, 2013, 02:43:43 PM Best I can say is that the noise is intrusive, much louder than it was from new the last two years. Regular kind of clutch noise, no grinding clanking or banging :)

Title: Re: Clutch Noise / Oil Issue? Post by: cyberswine on June 08, 2013, 06:58:08 PM Probably have to try a different oil, that's the best part of fifty bucks in there. Guess I'll catch it since it's brand new and use it elsewhere :(
Title: Re: Clutch Noise / Oil Issue? Post by: Howie on June 08, 2013, 10:57:02 PM What viscosity is the oil? Much different than the oil that was in the bike before the change?
Title: Re: Clutch Noise / Oil Issue? Post by: cyberswine on June 09, 2013, 05:37:47 AM The Motul I have in now is 20W 40, I'm guessing 20W 40 or 50 prev.
Title: Re: Clutch Noise / Oil Issue? RESOLVED Post by: cyberswine on June 10, 2013, 10:31:46 AM I found that the previous oil was Spectro Platinum m/c oil, full synth, 10W 40. Had to buy it from the dealership at enormous cost, solved the problem immediately! So there you have it, even the best oils may not be right for every bike. Hope someone can benefit from my experience. I love my Monster but if I had hair it would have turned it gray by now [bang]
