Title: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: suzyj on June 17, 2013, 11:52:39 PM Oh noes! In the state of no inspections, me bike copped a clobbering.
I'll grovel to the first person to pick the right two! Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: braando on June 18, 2013, 12:38:54 AM Suzy, unfortunately, thats what happens when you move overseas to Perth. [roll]
Am amazed that you had the Looks like you need to suck up to Perry and borrow his scooter, is that legal ? Oh dear, [roll] Bloody embarrasing to say the least..... Wouldn't happen in Sydney.. [coffee] Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: FIFO on June 18, 2013, 01:00:29 AM Reflector. For sure [roll]
Tail chop ??? Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: Betty on June 18, 2013, 01:11:01 AM Surely it is the dodgy wiring!
Oh and boobies ... girls can't ride bikes! Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: suzyj on June 18, 2013, 02:27:09 AM It was lack of reflector and led indicators (Rizoma track 77).
Lack of reflector is fair enough (and a stuff-up on my part), but the indicator bit surprised me, as I specifically bought indicators that had all the DOT markings. Fixing the reflector was easy as, but putting bulb indicators back on was actually a bit of work, as my loom supplies constant current to the indicators, and bulbs don't like that. Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: FIFO on June 18, 2013, 02:40:54 AM Do i get at least the Boobie prize, for getting it half right :-* :D And wtf is wrong with led indicators ??? most new cars and bikes come standard with them ??? Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: Two dogs on June 18, 2013, 03:54:53 AM Suz
did they fail them because they were LED or because they now are not the regulation width apart ? From mammary (bobbies) 300mm over here maybe if its the latter the issue will be easier to remedy . Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: suzyj on June 18, 2013, 04:21:49 AM He said they were too small. They are far enough apart - I checked the ADRs when I built the bracket. There's no mention of size in the ADRs. I suspect he was talking out his arse, but what can I do?
Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: Betty on June 18, 2013, 04:55:34 AM I suspect he was talking out his arse, but what can I do? Change them back afterwards. Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: brad black on June 18, 2013, 06:13:31 AM from memory of what yours looks like I would have failed you on exhaust, tail chop and reflector.
indicators are a wacky one. there's no size requirement as you say, and I had the discussion with a vicroads person one day when doing a rwc about the size, etc, and he said there wasn't a spec, and it was up to me sort of thing. maybe the inspector stood back 20 metres with them on and compared to another bike and thought no. I have found led ones lacking in that comparison. even the spacing thing falls down when you look at the rear of a paso or bmw r1100 or 1150rt (the one with them really close together). Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: Wells on June 18, 2013, 06:47:53 AM Dammit.. Had them both right, but couldn't pass up on Boobs. [thumbsup]
Should make it a "pick three" poll. Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: Betty on June 18, 2013, 11:21:53 AM I would have failed you on exhaust (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-j2ehZuZ7HHw/Ubp2hlGuFnI/AAAAAAAACyM/aBbq_XW-Gzs/w743-h557-no/2013-06-13) We're all doomed! [laugh] I thought the indicator spacing was only brought in because of WA ... to accommodate their 25 digit plates for bikes [roll] Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: J5 on June 18, 2013, 11:45:04 AM He said they were too small. They are far enough apart - I checked the ADRs when I built the bracket. There's no mention of size in the ADRs. I suspect he was talking out his arse, but what can I do? dig out the relevant adrs and prove him wrong so he has to pass it i had an issue with a tester years ago with gf car and ended up taking the car to the rta pits when they actually existed and rta said yes you are right :D as think of it this way , if you change it and change it back you might next time have to argue with police and pay for it Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: Sabre Brian on June 18, 2013, 12:42:05 PM Surely you can go over his head. If there is no rule there in black and white then surely he can't fail it, otherwise they could just start making up any old shit they want to fail you.
Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: suzyj on June 18, 2013, 02:31:38 PM It was easy enough swapping out indicators and adding a reflector, so I saw no point in arguing. In reality the police can always defect you. The rules around that are that they "believe" the bike isn't compliant. So especially once I have a new exhaust, regardless how quiet, any copper having a bad day or needing to make a quota or otherwise wanting to punish an uppity bike rider can slap a sticker on for the flimsiest of reasons, and it'll cost me $63 to have it removed.
FWIW the Rizoma indicators are extremely bright. They use 1W LEDs, and are brighter than stock. Just smaller. And my tail chop doesn't comply with the 45 degree rule, so by rights they should have done me for that. Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: J5 on June 18, 2013, 04:32:14 PM thats true the cops can fine you if they believe its is wrong
the trick is knowing that its right and proving it is this blinker the only thing you have an issue with ?? yes it is ok well here is the applicable adr's to blinkers and they meet all the requirements I have heard strories of guys in modded cars playing the police game cops trying to defect factory stock cars the best ones are guys with modded cars with complete engineering certificates these tyres are too big here sir its on the cert this intercoler insnt compliant here sir its on the cert these gauges arent compliant here sir its on the cert its also known as the attitude test fail the attitude test and you ar fair game Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: Mishka on June 18, 2013, 07:48:57 PM Sounds like a ill equipped male being threatened by your IQ/assets.
Reflector I get the other is bull. I drilled and mounted the Duc reflector on the correct angle to the plate light as below, keeping the space tight. Post by: ungeheuer on June 19, 2013, 01:45:04 AM Do you have to do the annual thing in WA?
Or is it just coz you're an escapee from the First Colony and needed a bigger WA number plate? They probably just "did" you for the indicators coz you're "from over east" ;) Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: brad black on June 19, 2013, 03:20:04 AM maybe the person who did the inspection, and who has to put his name to a legal document, felt they were not appropriate and he said so.
in vic a rwc is a legal document, and if you sign it, you are liable. someone turns across in front of a bike because they couldn't see the indicators, rider gets killed, goes to coroner, bike has non std indicators that someone in the legal process decides are too small, you gave the bike a rwc with them fitted, you're screwed. I personally have had owners beg me to do them a favour, then been sold down the river the first time they get hassled. so I was a complete nazi on rwc. and it you didn't like it, you could just piss off. I don't do rwc anymore now I have my own business. I am quite happy to live with one less thing to be pissed and moaned at for. maybe those complaining should get together an open a rwc/whatever it is in your state shop and give them out without regard to the rules and be everyone's mate. Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: dragonworld. on June 19, 2013, 03:49:20 AM As a member of the Constabulary said to me once after pulling me over for a "Licence Check", "Listen Mate! On this piece of asphalt, and right at this time, I AM THE LAW!!" [leo] [roll]
So I took the hint and ceased to debate the legality of certain modifications, label location and blah, blah, blah!! >:( You become a potential target for "Blue Uniform Revenge"and harrassment! if you argue the point!! Say nothing and argue later in court if you want, but you are generally on a hiding to nowhere on the side of the road!!! [roll] Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: braando on June 19, 2013, 01:55:00 PM I remember vividly the time i got pulled over on the MV.
It was a random breath test station on Mona Vale Road, Boxing Day. Firstly, they obviously all had the shits cos they were dragged in to work. None of them had any idea re the bike and deemed four pipes exiting at the rear must be illegal ( C Last weekend there was a blitz down Warriewood way ( Sydneys norther beaches area ) which is a popular run for modified cars and Harleys. It was a joint effort, RTA, EPA and around half a dozen Highway Patrol. They had a mobile testing station set up at Rat Park, the plod would patrol around and pull over suspect cars and bikes then drag them back to be tested. It is a frequent act here these days. Their favourite spot is around Woolloomoolloo, close To Harry's Cafe. You just need to be careful where you ride these days if your bike is borderline or over. i can understand what you are saying and from what i have heard now RWC in vic has to take photos and keep these on record for a period of time The issue i have is they can fail it because the 'think' its not right despiteit may meet all the rules and to not give a reason as to why they are failing it The job of doing RWC is to know what the rules are and enforcing them as such so they are confident in signing their life away But to fail someone like the police do because they 'think' its not right is not the way it should be Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: FIFO on June 20, 2013, 02:30:19 AM Here in NSW the RTA are doing spot checks, and not just hear say. My son's friend recently got a letter from the RTA ,to take his car to the RTA for an inspection, Not long after having it's annual inspection for rego. The word has it they were doing different areas/suburbs at a time. :P Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: J5 on June 20, 2013, 11:40:48 AM Rob
they do that at times when they have a problem with a tester i know someone that they went through every single one he had done a ticket on trying to bust him Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA! Post by: heatherp on June 21, 2013, 08:11:24 PM Glad you got it sorted Suzy.
My boobies (or lack thereof) passed no problem. ;D I rode my pushbike to the licencing centre, handed in the Vic plate and completed forms claiming no mods. Well the termies were on it when I bought it - don't they come like that [roll] No inspection required thank you very much. Unge, no requirement for regular inspections here in WA that I know of. Well the termies were on it when I bought it - don't they come like that [roll] No inspection required thank you very much. Unge, no requirement for regular inspections here in WA that I know of. That's what we did with the car. Drove it in, pulled the Eastern states plates off in the car park, went in with a few old rego receipts to show we'd owned it for honks, and all was easy. Unfortunately I'd let the rego on the bike lapse while it was apart. It would have been much easier otherwise. Brad, I've got nothing against the guy who did the inspection. He was clearly just applying his interpretation of the ADRs, or possibly even someone in Perths interpretation. It's just a pity the ADRs couldn't be a little less ambiguous. I'm confident my led indicators are way brighter and more visible than the stock incandescent ones, not to mention being more reliable to boot. Title: Re: OMG I failed rego in WA!
