So - as of 2 am this morning I have officially given up on humanity. If you don't want to read me vent stop now.
This last week has been shit. On monday my chain broke on the highway about 1/2 an hour from anywhere. Luckily I happened to have a spare master link and my RK tools in my backpack. I found the chain and put it back on. Took around 3 hours total.
Not 1 single person stopped to ask "Need a hand?" or "You okay?"
This was on the side of a really busy highway. At least 20 different bikers rode by me without even slowing down. make the beast with two backs you small town Alberta assholes. It's like every man for himself. No one gives a shit about their fellow man.
This point was REALLY driven home last night. I'm walking home and get jumped by 4 dudes. I'm by myself. This was also on a busy road. I managed to steer the scuffle into the middle of a 4 lane road. At least 10 cars passed by as I was getting the shit beat out of me. Not a single person called 911. Nada.
Ok I understand if you fear for your safety but at least call the cops for make the beast with two backss sake. Thanks again Alberta - make the beast with two backs you. I managed to put up enough of of a fight to :
a - survive
b- keep my cell phone
While me and two of the jerkoffs were wresting on the ground - jerkoff # 3 decided to turn my leg into a trampoline. I am in all kinds of pain. I can still ride at least - barely. I can't use the rear brake at all but my left leg is - for the most part - good to go [thumbsup]
So to summarize.
I HATE APATHY. Oh just turn your head asshole. If it doesn't directly affect you then it's okay to turn a blind eye to someone else's misfortune. I used to be an optimist. I used to think there was hope for us.
Today I learned I was wrong. FTW learn to swim... [drink]
make the beast with two backs, glad to hear you are okay.
It sucks, but you just gotta kind of learn to do it on your own.
You've only got yourself.
Glad to hear you're ok.
Society has gone to shit.
Too bad you can't carry in Canada.
Was someone saying something?? [coffee]
Getting jumped sucks. Been there before, be glad you're able to tell about it. Had a friend that was jumped, mugged, and shot 3 times............... for the 3 whole dollars he had on him.
That sucks. There are some good people out there, they just do not live anywhere near you.
Hope your leg heals up soon.
Mary
I thought Canadians were supposed to be nice people?
Didnt you see Michael Moore just walk into people's houses in the begining for "Bowling for Columbine"
It kind of sucks that none of the bikers stopped to help you out. I have stopped to help someone out before and he told me to get lost! To be honest it made me a little jadded and I flipped him off as I got on my bike and rode off. It makes me think twice before stoping to help someone now.
As for the jumping part, that just sucks! Nothing more manly or tough guy than getting 3 of your buddies and beating up 1 dude. make the beast with two backsing lame!
Sorry that happened to you, the same thing has happened to me multiple times. It's really made me lose faith in humanity.
Jesus H, mang!
Glad you're mostly okay.
If you ever make it out this way I'll gladly buy you a round or three. [beer]
What are the laws regarding collapsible batons in CA?
Time to move, people suck everywhere but they seem to suck quite a bit more where you're at it would seem.
Get better man and take some solace in that there's at least a few halfway decent folks still fighting the good fight.
shit, dude. that would make anyone a permanent cynic. i'm glad you survived. don't know what else to say as it's already happened. there is some good left in the world- just maybe not in alberta :-\
don't give up, there are good people out there, and get well soon!
Uber- suckage friend. Glad you made it through, and I'm glad you fought the make the beast with two backsers! I wouldn't give a dollar without a fight, it's the concept, make them work for it. Kudos and glad you made it through. I'd welcome to my place anytime. [beer] Man kind isn't entirely make the beast with two backsed yet, we just gotta make sure us good apples watch out for each other. Good future, karma owes you a couple.
Shizer, as mentioned previously I thought Canadians were nice people also.. I'm just glad you weren't injured worse than you were. I can't believe no one stopped to help or at least call the police.
Some good karma to you from me buddy.. hang in there.
Sorry to hear about this...there are a lot miserable people out there. Hope you heal up.
Rob
Talk about a bad day. Ive been trying to think of something to say that would help you feel better. The best I can say is look back at what our Monster community has done to help each other. Everyone is not bad.

Too bad you can't carry in Canada.
Lucky for him you cant carry in Canada.
Sorry to hear this (especially as I'll be in Alberta next week).
I was once attacked on my bicycle in downtown Palo Alto, broad daylight (case of road rage). People just stood around watching and didn't do anything. >:(
Cripes, man. I want to say "Hey, at least it can't get any worse," but that'd seriously be tempting fate. Sorry you had a terrible week, but I'm glad you're mostly okay.
Try to think of the people in your life who do make you happy. Your island in a sea of jackassery.
By the way, what would the Canadian equivalent of Arizona Bay be? Any good riding there? ;)
SKOM, SKOM, SKOM.....
sorry to hear about that shite. I don't really know what else to say, but that shit should not happen.
Now, when are you coming to God's Country. It's soon right? You need to pack your bags and get out!
That crap does happen here also, but not nearly as often.
I don't know much about where you are moving to, in God's Country, I only know they throw the bodies into vats of acid and seal them in bank vaults.
Sorry, that shouldn't worry you anyway. [thumbsup]
Canada or Mexico neither appears to be a place to be alone.
Get well and glad you're OK.
F the Canucks or anybody who won't stop.
I've stopped for more than my fair share of wrecks and breakdowns with the hope that Karma will be with me and just plain ole humanity for Gods sake.
There will always be people who are too self absorbed to stop and lend a kind word, I hope they get stranded in a didtch and nobody goes by for three days!
Watch out folks.
VS is exacting revenge one member at a time.
They'll be moving south of the border soon enough. :-\
That is awful, Hope you get better soon. Some people just suck ass. Three to one is just being pussies. My wishes are with you.

People who do shit like this in the US, for the most part, can't carry either. So where does that argument get you?
If a couple of these bastards got shot, they might think twice before doing some dumb shit.

Careful, guys. There's a political board where you can hash this out like adults. Or children, whichever suits you.
How you healing up SKOM?

Damn VS ! [cheeky]
So................Were these guys trying to steal something? You guys trash-talking eachother beforehand? No previous contact? You make it sound like they just jumped you for no reason. What's the rest of the story? It usually doesn't happen that way. Especially in Canada.
All that cop-style interrogation aside.......Hope you recover quickly.
I've been one of those guys that just stands around/drives past before. A while back I made a commitment to never be that guy again. After a couple times of being embarrassed with myself, I decided it's just better to get involved.
Sorry buddy. Well done on getting through it all! [beer]

The same thing went through my head when I read the OP.
I can't say I've ever been in one situation or the other.
I'd like to think that if it came to it I'd fight the good fight, but I can't say one way or the other right now.
That's still one of my favorite movies, tho.
I hope I wasn't misleading. I'm not much of a fighter! I haven't been really tested yet. I saw a dude being very loud and intimidating to a girlfriend (in tears) on a side street, and I went and stood over them both and told him he was way out of line, and asked the girl if she wanted help. She didn't. I have a feeling they both liked the drama. [roll] I was bigger than him and I knew I could out-yell and out-intimidate him, so it wasn't a particularly dangerous scenario for me.
There's a crazy-looking guy that walks all around the area I used to live. He doesn't talk to anyone, he's just a man on a mission, carrying a big sack of goodness-knows what on his back, speed-walking everywhere. Everyone's seen him around. One day I was parked on the main road waiting to meet someone, and I notice mission-man walking up in my rear-view. He just tensed up and keeled over into the street, obviously having a seizure of some kind, and people just drove around him. >:( Incredible. Once I was out of the car and at his side, people started helping out and offering to call an ambulance. He came around after a minute, didn't say anything, and was keen to get back on his mission, but was a bit shaken up. A parking warden drove past, and they obviously knew each other, so mission-man was comfortable getting in his car to go to the hospital. [thumbsup] I was just shocked at those first few that drove around a guy lying in the street. [roll]
Fights though, that'd be a test. I'm a pretty good peacock, puffing myself up to be intimidating and I can yell like a drill sergeant. Never thrown a punch though. Hope I don't find myself in that one.

Awesome Movie!!! On a side note the closest I've ever come to pulling the trigger on someone was when I got involved in a situation like that. After I stepped in one guy threatened to go get a gun, I turned around and reached in my truck, I told him not to bother i already had one and they needed to leave NOW! :o Scared the shit outta me, I'd much prefer a little fist-to-cuffs.
[beer] [bacon]
Wow guys. Thanks for all the kind words. Sorry I haven't been on all weekend. I was sleeping pretty much the whole weekend. My SO convinced me to go to the hospital and turns out my right ankle is broken (edit: just a correction - turns out its only ligimant damage and a small broken bone in my foot - hooray!) and I have a concussion.
It probably was VS. First they ban me - now this.
Just to add to the story. I did get some serious shots in. I pretty much just focussed on the first attacker and kept hitting his face till he stopped fighting. The guy kicking my head decided to come in for a closer look so I got a hold of his shirt and drove my thumb as far as I could into his eye socket. At least they earned their 60 bucks.
Looking back I think I was actually really really lucky. It could have been much worse. Knives, guns.. me dead or worse... I would like to take back some of my initial cynicism and say that there are some good folks - lots of good folks out there. They were just all on vacation last week.
I also don't want to dump on Canada too much. It is and always will be my first home. There are assholes in every country. Mine's no different.
TIB - I am still coming out - the visa is taking forever. Might not be until Fall now. :P
Thanks again everyone. I really do appreciate all the good Karma. [drink]
edit: Oh and it was a straight up robbery. Guy put his finger in his shirt mimicking a gun. I laughed and told him to make the beast with two backs off. It escalated from there.
Glad to see you post up. [beer]
The 1% rule. Good to see you standing by your homeland.
Glad you got checked out. The diagnosis sucks, but healing right the first time is better than having to re-heal later.
Best of all, you're okay! And there's a new bacon smiley!

Ruff week,,,holycrap. As for your last incident. These so called pedestrian crosswalks. Its a wonder there arnt more people killed on those. When I 1st moved to Alberta they caught me off guard. I fricken near T Boned a car that stopped directly in front of me,,,,,,like,, wtf. Why was he stopping in the middle of the road where there was no stop sign or traffic light ? ?.
&,, your chain broke,,,thats why Ducati should go to belt drive,,, I am serious on that :)
Thanks man. i can't wait to get out of this city. I love this country but I am beginning to dislike Edmonton.
I still like the chain. I will never use a clip master link again though. I don't think the clip was sitting on the grove. Guess who installed it.
we're ready for you down here mate [thumbsup]
we'll have beer and company ready when you get to Melbourne.
