Title: Icon haters Post by: Rudemouthsky on June 22, 2013, 01:23:34 PM My wife is a spoiled brat, and it's what she wanted :)
(http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g234/247prophet/IMG_20130622_165042_zps635be2cd.jpg) I think it looks and feels great...plus its 100% vegan :) Title: Re: Icon haters Post by: Stormtrooper on June 22, 2013, 01:56:43 PM now get her the bike to match...

Title: Re: Icon haters Post by: Rudemouthsky on June 22, 2013, 03:17:35 PM I've got a $200 Icon jacket that I like the hell out of. They're marketing shtick is def douchey but the stuff is nice, at least the low key stuff is. She's going to ride the little 200cc cafe racer I built for her in that jacket, not a hot pink R6.
Title: Re: Icon haters Post by: Privateer on June 23, 2013, 07:23:22 AM I used to be one of the haters, but the more I thought about it the more silly it was.
The way I see it, their designs fit a need. And if it wasn't for them a lot of younger riders wouldn't wear gear. They do have a better spread of styling now at least, as said above the low key stuff is nice. But really, is what they make any less "douchey" than some of the dainese or a-star stuff, albeit in a different way? If what they make encourages people to wear gear, then kudos to them. Title: Re: Icon haters Post by: Rudemouthsky on June 23, 2013, 07:28:17 AM When I say "douchey" I'm specifically referring to some of their marketing, which is openly sexist and machismo. That's what comes to mind when I think of; "douchebag". But I do love much of their gear. I absolutely love my Brawnson jacket and the wife adores her Contra, fits her perfectly and it's not too flashy.
Title: Re: Icon haters Post by: lawbreaker on June 23, 2013, 09:46:24 AM They're still regarded somewhat as "Squid" gear ... BUT they have made some killer 1-off stuff and now seem to be making some nice looking stuff.
Title: Re: Icon haters Post by: Rudemouthsky on June 23, 2013, 12:45:49 PM I read a lot of those; "Is Icon squid gear" threads...the consensus seemed to be that squids don't wear gear. I somewhat agree with that but my own personal definition of squid transcends the gear they do or don't wear. Squids to me are douchebags on motorcycles and imho you're a squid if you put other people at risk or violate someone else's boundaries. Generally if you're not an @$$hole you're not a squid.
Title: Re: Icon haters Post by: memper on June 23, 2013, 03:35:02 PM I think some of their helmets look cool if the graphics were removed but I hear they are very loud. Is this true?

BUT they have made some killer 1-off stuff and now seem to be making some nice looking stuff. the Icon 1000 line has some very cool, understated gear. (I think at least) I just wish their gloves fit my hands. Title: Re: Icon haters Post by: JohnEE on June 24, 2013, 03:58:03 AM I think some of their helmets look cool if the graphics were removed but I hear they are very loud. Is this true? Yes, they are loud(at least my current icon lid is). I hear the new airmada was pretty quiet for under $300.Also this is probably my favorite color at the moment, also lightening bolts!!!! (http://images2.revzilla.com/product_images/0041/8628/icon_airmada_stack_helmet_hi_viz_helmet_detail.jpg) Understated is not their style. They also released this last week.....not everyones cup of tea by anymeans, I'm just a fan of bright and obnixous colors :D (http://images1.revzilla.com/product_images/0060/1031/icon_airmada_bostrom_helmet_detail.jpg) Title: Re: Icon haters Post by: Rudemouthsky on June 24, 2013, 05:46:08 AM I actually dig that crazy blue one. Title: Re: Icon haters Post by: corey on July 01, 2013, 12:23:49 PM My wife just received her new Airframe helmet in rubatone black. I'm EXTREMELY impressed. The airflow is incredible, the attention to detail is top notch, and the styling is just sick.
That being said, the reason she bought it was because her previous one started to fall apart... The rubber ring around the bottom of the helmet was falling off. I think they are very well-priced, and the quality is definitely improving. I had an Icon Accelerant perfed leather jacket, and really regret selling it to another member here. The attention to details on hers is absolutely outstanding. Armor is top notch, zippers are superb quality, everything is just A1. My Brawnson has a look that I love, badass leather racer style in a textile version and both hers and mine fit us like gloves. I hope I never find out but I also feel extremely well protected and secure in it as does she. Title: Re: Icon haters Post by: Rudemouthsky on July 01, 2013, 06:54:40 PM And she looks smokin hot in it. :)
Title: Re: Icon haters Post by: danaid on July 01, 2013, 08:05:59 PM And she looks smokin hot in it. :) ;) ;) I have noticed the improvements to the product line. I watch all the videos on the Revzilla YouTube channel. they are definitely stepping it up, but I'm still a Dainese fan boy!
