Title: 2013 MotoGP - Assen (SPOILER)
Post by: TitanMonsterS4R on June 27, 2013, 05:02:53 AM
Thursday afternoon at Assen brought drama in the form of a high-speed crash for World Champion Jorge Lorenzo, who was caught out by standing water while navigating the quick Hoge Heide section of the circuit.

Broken collarbone. Haven't read anything else, but I presume it will be unlikely he will be out there this weekend. This might put a huge wrench in his title hopes.

Definitely out for Assen (duh!). Going to Barcelona ASAP to get surgery:

That was unfortunate.
It just popped him up in the air a little.
If it had bucked a little harder, he would've rotated more and probably been alright.

Gonna suck for Sachsenring and Laguna, clockwise circuits on a freshly plated left collarbone.

Let me keep this short and sweet:  MotoGP title to Pedrosa.

How will Pedantic-McBrittle-Bones handle Marc up his back tire lap after lap?  Can he hold Marc off long enough or will Marc just take him out on his way down?

M&M cartwheeled himself and his Respol Honda down the track during FP3.  Looks like another nasty highside with the bike resting on his leg as the slid off the track into the kitty liter.

Lorenzo has always been tough as nails, but I have to respect the man for what he just did.  Hell of a race.  Nice to see Rossi back on the top step.  I was wondering if we'd ever see him back there again.  I'll savor it and hopefully he can keep up the good form for some podiums going forward.

Pretty good race there.

Hats off to Rossi

Glad to see Crutchlow fight it out to the end for a good result

Pedro sure dropped the ball on this one

Lorenzo is an animal for racing today let alone getting a decent result

I don't think I saw a Ducati the entire race. I almost forgot they existed.

Agree with all the above, especially the last part, but at least the action up front made up for Ducati's failings.

^ What he said.

Hats off to all the Yammyhammer boys! Rossi!! Yeeehaaa!! [clap] [thumbsup] [drink] 'Bout time.

Six foot tall "balls of steel" trophy to Jorge for even showing up much less racing and saving some points. Nice pole for Cal and great run from 5th to challenge wonderboy for 2nd!! Gotta love it. Jorge showing up and getting 5th had to take some wind out of McBrittlebone's sails.

And yes... when is MM going to say "make the beast with two backs team rules" and punt 'Bot into the kitty litter? [popcorn] ;) It's all up to Pedrosa to win it or bin it this year. If he doesn't win the championship how long before Honda/Repsol start to focus all their attention to the wonderboy MM?

Rossi!!!!

Lorenzo  :o

Whomever was saying that Raux was crazy when saying that the Turd was holding back MM must be eating a lot of crow today. Pedrosa pushes and tries to keep up at the beginning, but simply gives up towards the end. MM should punt him on the second lap if he wants to fight for first.

Ducati needs to buy a Honda and put Ducati stickers on it.

Don't get me wrong, the kid is showing some true genius in his rookie year but at the same time, he has shown that he still lacks a little bit of experience. And I do still enjoy watching him make things interesting. I also have no love for Dwarfism McCanthackitinthebigleagues...but so far this season, he has shown patience and poise when he has needed to.

Grande Vale!!  [beer]
Honda/Yamaha vs. Ducati.
Honda/Yamaha have more engineers in the racing team, than Ducati has in the whole company.
Honda/Yamaha can afford to make quicker changes to the bike components, because they have in-house manufacturing, instead of relying on third parties schedules.
Honda/Yamaha would have likely canned the whole racing team, if they would have failed to deliver a competitive bike in all these years.
Kicking out Preziosi should be only the start there.

There's poise and there's giving up. The Turd has shown for years that he's batshit fast, if he's leading at the first corner. The first few races he was showing that he had a killer instinct. What happened to him since? This was THE race to put a dagger through Lorenzo's title hopes. Today was the day to go balls out, not finish fourth just ahead of the guy that had shoulder surgery 36 hours before the race.

Yes, Rossi has fun and genuinely enjoys it and puts on a great show.  Simply awesome to watch that.

Being Rossi and Dovi fan, I am just sad that Ducati team is just in bad shape.

Impressed by CRT espargro (sp?).

Always look forward to what Cal says to the BBC commentator at the grid.  Always rips on his cloth or hair style or something.  Cracks me up.

+1

I'm in Pedro's corner and I'm not eating crow.  That's not the first or last time MM has or will pass Dani.  However, Pedrosa is currently leading the championship.  MM is not.  If MM can get by Pedro he will.  If he can't, don't say Pedro is blocking him.  Its racing and its bs.

He just threw away a huge opportunity to put pressure on Lorenzo. That shoulder will take a few races to get back to 100%. Rossi had this race won, there was no one on that grid that could have prevented it, but The Turd should have latched onto the back of his back. The more he went backwards, the more Lorenzo could settle into a painful rhythm. You need to exploit weakness, which means you don't let Lorenzo settle. You force him into pushing the bike, which in turn puts pressure on the shoulder until the pain is too much and he retires.

i'll agree that this was a missed opportunity for pedro, but lorenzo's whole plan was running his own race and settling for whatever points he could get.

MM isn't playing teammate at all; he just can't get past Tiny [fill in the blank] until later in the race.  Proof will come when MM torpedoes Tiny trying to force an inside/on the brakes pass, which seems more and more to be his signature/one-really-natural move.  Funny when Cal almost did it to him yesterday at the start of the last lap  ;D

I think this race nicely showcased lots of stuff:

ROSSI!!    Good to see him win! That will do wonders for his self confidence & hopefully he will win more but doubtful that he will be in championship contention this year anyway.

Crutchlow....... screwed up the start something fierce and almost wrote him off but the guy has a huge heart and fought back. Could have actually placed better but kept messing up in a few corners that set him back.

Pedrosa ..... super talented, fast as all get out until he gets consistently pressured and if he gets passed it's like stabbing him and hard for him to fight back.  If he had Crutchlow's heart he'd be a champion already.

Marquez .... better than Dani but trying to be a team player until it's obvious that Dani is just not going to hold a fast enough pace so he has to pass him.  There's being a team player and then there's beinga team player but if your teammate is going to fold then what can you do?

Lorenzo....... Big balls and kudos to him for even showing up to race let alone race as hard as he did. Absolutely deserves all those points and then some.  But......... even though he was totally spent at the end of the race you cannot tell me that he didn't have enough left in him to pull up to his teammate Rossi and congratulate him on a race win.  No,  the guy just doesn't have enough class to do that.  It's only that.. class & sportsmanship and I think he needs more.  He can be dour just like Pedrosa, who gives a real rip but if he could finish the race and the give Rossi a fist pump on the track that would really show something.  He just doesn't have that something.

Rossi also joked that he gained extra motivation during the race from the heroic performance of injured team-mate Lorenzo.

“At one moment I saw on the big screen that Lorenzo was very close to me and I thought, 'make the beast with two backs! If he arrives in front of me with a broken collarbone it is a big problem!' That gave me 0.2-0.3 every lap!” he smiled.

Think about it though. Foggy is no better when it comes to manners, but he can ride.

That photo of Rossi/Marquez holding hands after Assen....is it just me, or does it look like MM's bike is angling towards Rossi's bike, as if he's rehearsing the inevitable attempt at a takeout move.  [evil]

Actually, I think Rossi (and Lorenzo, to a degree) is a lot like Wayne Gretzky; so smooth and skilled that he's nearly impossible to hit in the open field, even when one's trying to take him out...unless that one is Bautista and Rossi has no where to go at the start of the race...
