Looking for some general info about things to watch for on purchasing an 07 s4rs with 17,500. miles on it.Any help would be appricated
With any monster produced after mid 05, until the 696 look at the tank closely. Details here:

- Short version is that the nylon based plastic used swells when exposed to water - what's a big component of Ethanol? yeah... water.
Beyond that, the S4Rs was the top tier monster, nice suspension, nice brakes same engine as the 999. Mmmmm
With any used Duc - do note that the cam belts are 2 year or 12k mile replacement items. So if you don't know that those belts have been swapped in the last 2 years, a new set would need to go on ASAP. Parts cost for the belts is $100.
I was told the tank issue was a class action suit and ducati dealers are requiered to replace them even if its not the first owner??
thxs for the reply
Read the threads - I believe that then term for that is coming to or has ended.
I don't have a plastic tank - so I'm a little IZ_ on the details of the suit.
yes the tanks were/are replaced even if you are not the original owner, but time is running out. i think sometime in July was the cut off. Someone correct me if im wrong though.
do a search on the S4Rs there were a few of us who bought used ones last summer and posted the same questions. with good responses.
Belts are a must to check, as mentioned above. check tire condition, which with that milage they have probably been changed at least once. There may also be fork servicing to be done? not positive though. If you're not familiar with monsters check out the owners manual (available on the ducati website) and that will give you all of the recommended maintenance information.
Ask the owner if they have the service history.
If the bike is stock its not very smooth below 3-4k RPM. Actually mine feels that way with the slip on Termis too. If it has the full termi system or a proper tune / pc then i believe it should feel smoother along the entire power band.
the bike is major fun and turning into a great classic. i dont think i'll ever be able to part with mine!
good luck...
I've had quite a few new customers bring in new (to them) bikes that they got "great" deals on.
With no maintenance histories.
Usually at/near/well beyond the standard maintenance interval mileage.
Usually shagged tires and/or shagged driveline.
A standard interval service with belts, and usual time related maintenance that's obviously not done, plus tires and driveline....
plus the usual $400 or so in cosmetic farkles that they've already bought....
Ends up being not so quite a "great" deal.
Food for thought.
I have a 2007 s4r when I bought it needed a little tlc. But best bike I ever owned.
Mine had 18k miles on it and the clutch was near the end of its life.
Thanks for everyones input it was helpfull.
