ive been reading all the posts ducatista has been posting about her track day experiences and I want to get on the track bout not in a race... Are there any tracks open to the public to just cruise on? I'd love to take my soon to be bike out for a little open track time!!!
There aren't any tracks that are just "open to the public", but there are many organizations that rent the local tracks for track days. Track fees vary widely depending on the group. NESBA is one of the prominent groups in the area, and of course our local Ducati Owner's Club, Mid-Atlantic Ducati, rents Virginia International Raceway twice a year for two days at a go.
All the orgs require some level of bike preparation and gear. You'll have to get the rules for each group to find out what their requirements are.
Just from my own personal experience, I have found that Mid-Atlantic Ducati's days at VIR are probably the best first-time track experience. They grid very few people per group and you have all the Cornerspeed instructors there. Plus, if you're in the beginner "B" group, you get several sessions of classroom time to help you get a better jump start at performance riding.
must you have a ducati to ride then though?

Nope! You just have to have an appreciation for them and be a member of the club. www.mad-ducati.com
You can also consider the Cornerspeed school, http://www.cornerspeed.net/ (http://www.cornerspeed.net/) and evn though the price has gone up somewhat - it is worth every penny IMHO. - Gene
