I'm thinking of buying a stock ECU for my 1100S to use for reflashing with a custom map so that I can send it out and not be without my bike. I am seeing different part numbers that purport to be for the same model bike, though. The part book says that the M1100 has a 289.4.164.1c, and I am seeing one that says M1100 that has a number of 286.4.170.2a, which I am also seeing listed for a 696. do they use the same part number for different applications?
I think you've got a bad battery, that's your trouble.
IIRC .... and that's a serious qualification... you need to have the same series part number.
So it's possible to reflash a 696 ECU as M1100 as long as they are the same series... ABS and non-ABS are not interchangeable...
Important to know what the p/n is on your existing stock ECU (regardless of what the book says it is). Do you know what you have?
I have a few ECUs... I'll go take a look at what I've got right now... brb.
Alright..
My 09 M1100s (non-ABS) spare parts manual lists the ECU p/n as:
286.4.164.1A (Global)
286.4.164.1B (UK market)
286.4.164.1F (Euro market).
286.4.164.1C (USA)
286.4.164.1D (Canada).
But what I actually have on my '09 (non-ABS) M1100s is:
Stock M1100 ECU (which I Rexxer reflashed and is currently installed on the bike): p/n 286.4.170.2A
DP Full System racing M1100 ECU (was installed prior to reflashing the stock ECU): p/n 286.4.170.2A
Stock M696 ECU (which I bought to reflash, but haven't ever got around to it): p/n 286.4.170.2A
Hope that helps.
I'm with Speeddog. Definitely battery.
As soon as I can get the tank off I am going to do a loud test on the battery!
Ungeheuer has provided the other clue that answered the question, thanks dude!
