Title: My sister is my hero today (aka Gibraltar swim)
Post by: 1.21GW on July 11, 2013, 08:03:56 AM
My sister is currently swimming across the Strait of Girbraltar.  She and two friends are swimming both as a personal challenge and to raise money for World Reader, an organization that provides kindles/e-books to schools in Africa ( http://www.worldreader.org/ (http://www.worldreader.org/) ).  They managed to raise $104,000!

Anyway, this post is just me gushing with pride and admiration, since the training is pretty intense, the water cold, not to mention cargo ships, dolphins/sharks/seaweed, open ocean swells, wind, rip tides, currents, etc.  Very proud of her.

I'm following them via GPS at:

Go Emily!  [bow_down]

80% there.  So far they've encountered dolphins, tuna, flying fish, and a Rorqual whale (whatever that is?!).

Haha.  Me too.  I definitely didn't get her swimming genes.

She said that she'd motivate for long swims by thinking: "If my body is 70% water, then only 30% of me has to swim."
