does anybody know of any ducati dealers or someone how can do the maintenance on my 07 800 in the Montana area. I moved to Austin tx about a year ago and bought my monster while I was here but its time to move on the texas area just is not for me. I would hate to have to sell my new ride but I cant find any place to service ducatis in Montana other than missoula

Your own garage?  Mechanically inclined?  I learned from only the LT Snyder manual and things have been fine.

I raced motocross for 17 years and did all my own service. but from what ive read doing the valve and cam belt requires ducati special tools which I dont have.actully my duc is my 21 st bike ive owned also I have to keep in mind resale. I dont want to sell the bike right now but someday I will and I would never buy a used duc if the owner did not have documented service records.

I don't consider myself in any way a motorhead and have only been involved with motorcycles for about 6 years, but I watched a couple videos and got a good manual and made it through valves and timing belt with no problems or special tools.  With the experience you have, you should't have any problems.  CA Cycleworks has some good videos and all the parts to make it pretty straightforward.  Where are you at in Montana?

I don't have any special tools.  In reality, you really need:

Feeler gauges
Metric sockets & Allan wrenches

That might be it IIRC.  It's surprisingly easy.  I'm no mechanic, and I have no problem with checking valves & changing belts.  I think the only special tool the book mentions is the "Engine Turning Tool" which I accomplish by putting the bike in 2nd or 3rd gear and using the rear wheel to turn the motor.

As for resale & documentation, just keep a notebook and document everything you do with date, mileage and (for valve checks) the clearances.  If you have something like that it shouldn't really affect resale.

Im in Austin tx right now. but Im looking for work in Montana right now Im looking to get out there around the end of the year. Im looking to go to boseman red lodge and ill even go to billing if I have to to get out of Austin.

Red Lodge is a neat little area.  We used to camp and trout fish up in the Beartooth, West of there.  My friends manage the Bighorn Co-op for the NW quarter of Wyoming in Greybull, just down from Red Lodge.  Wyoming is a bit better for taxes than Montana, but jobs aren't super available, depending. 

From the website, the Montana Ducati dealership looks like it is pretty active - looks like it would be worth a spin just to go up and see what they are about.

if your into clubing or down town life this is the place to be. but im 40yrs old and i love hunting and fishing and if you enjoy hunting texas is not the place to live.

If you don't have access to land or stacks of cash down there, its tough to find a place to hunt.  I've been working on finding something to do in Wyoming or Montana myself. 

if you like the bar scene then yes but the traffic, often times people and their attitudes don't make it worthwhile IMO.  Go to Bandera and ride where people actually pull over to let you pass and the roads are unclogged.
