On 2007 s4r testretra I was quoted $900.00 for timing belt replace valve adj and fluid change. How does this price sound?

Sounds pretty darn good. I think the shops around here charge $1000-1200 (atlanta area)
Reasonable
sounds about right
nothing stopping you doing the basic easy stuff yourself and getting someone to do the harder stuff
Which fluids?
But right now, not so bad. The belts are $100 of that cost alone. Then depending on the fuilds and other bits needed you might be looking at between $50 and 100 more for just parts.
So then the rest is labor. Not knowing the hourly rate there it makes it a little hard to peg. But around here (DC) it's about $100/hr...
Fluids were brake,clutch,coolant,and spark plugs.

Aren't OEM 4V belts more like $100 each?

Probably.
I was going by CA-Cycleworks. If they are going with OEM belt prices, then he could save a Ben by asking for the CA-Cycleworks belts vs OEM
So about 700 for labor
OEM belts ~$113 each
OEM plugs ~$25 each
That makes ~$300 in parts alone, maybe a bit more depending on coolant and sales tax rate.
CaCW belts would save ~$125.
All a bit IZ_, as we've no idea where you live.....
Fast by ferracci in pa is the shop. The qoute is without tax.
You could save more on parts too - no need for $50 in spark plugs that are the same as a $15 set.
As noted, CA-Cyclewroks belts will save you a bunch.
Will they itemize the estimate? labor vs parts at least. Seeming like the labor is probably on point, but the parts costs might be high, assuming they are going OEM. Not that they are gouging, just that Ducati has notoriously high OEM part prices.
Example, a single slip-on can for a 696 is about $1200. The older Monsters were over $800 each and were readily had on eBay for $50 to$100 a pair - and occasionally given away on here
I generally charge between $400-$500 labor to service an S4rs plus parts. One thing to ask them regarding their valve adjustment is if they're simply getting the clearances in spec or are they setting them dead on. Getting them dead on target (.002 closer .005 opener) which is how I do them takes a lot more time than just getting in spec. Ducati revised the specs on the testastretta some time after it's initial release and if I'm not mistaken there are manuals floating around with the old spec listed.
