Title: 01 M750 Intro and Questions
Post by: inurmind on July 17, 2013, 05:23:50 PM
So I've been lurking on here for a while, it's about time for a post.

I have an '01 M750 Dark. I've done some mods to her, mostly aesthetics but some performance. I try and do everything myself but if something is over my head there's a good shop down here not too far from where I live.

I have a couple things to do on my list. I have been pretty good about the basics like keeping the chain lubed and changing the oil regularly but she's coming up on 20,000 (I ride a lot- daily driver and weekend S hugger) so it's about time for a tune up. My shop down here has a 18k -that I missed- I'm thinking of having them do. It includes valve adjustment, oil/filter change, hydro flush, chain lube/adjust, bolt retorque, air filter (cleaning- I've got a K&N), timing belt tension and spark plugs. Anything you guys suggest in addition?

Also as far as mods go I have been wanting to do the exhaust for a while and now I'm ready. Should I wait to do the tuneup until after the new exhaust is on?

Also I want to ask you guys about the exhausts I'm looking at. I want to go high mount (HM) and as tucked under as possible. I like the look of the Arrow HM as well as the Silmoto HM and the Marving steel or carbon fiber HM. Also just came across these: http://www.carpimoto.it/EN/Brand_Mivv/29962_AD-019-LC2-Mivv-Muffler-Ducati-Monster-695-two-Street-Legal-X-Cone-High-Mount-Slip-on-stainless-steel-muffler.htm (http://www.carpimoto.it/EN/Brand_Mivv/29962_AD-019-LC2-Mivv-Muffler-Ducati-Monster-695-two-Street-Legal-X-Cone-High-Mount-Slip-on-stainless-steel-muffler.htm) I'm not a huge fan of giant cans or -although they sound amazing -the idea of putting Termignoni's on my Italian moto.

My biggest concern is heat and placement. I don't want to loose the passenger pegs and I don't want my girlfriend to get burned. I'm open to heat guards but I've read the CF cans don't get too hot (feedback?). And as I said I'd like them to be fairly tucked, I dig the streamline look.

Although I don't want to spend too much as it is a '01 with 20k on her, I'm also not going to cheap out either and want to do it right.

Any advise, info, links, or word on parts for sale is greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys
-D

Replace the belts if they haven't been done in the last 2 years.

Properly packed c/f cans do not get hot enough to burn you. When the packing wears out they will get hot enough to burn a hole through the carbon.

You should get your suspension components serviced if they haven't been in a couple years.

Regarding 'tucked' in - any highmounts are going to me about the same as far as width. There's just not enough room to tuck them in much further than most already are.

For the GF - leather defeats a lot of heat.

as for which cans...some food for thought...various manufacturers have a slightly different spec for the "S" or upsweep pipes which can differ in alignment with mounting on the rearward portion of the peg frames.

Suspension mods are a great suggestion. I recently upgraded the stock Sachs on my M750 that had over 30,000 miles with a Bitubo 2 way and it feels like an entirely different ride, especially 2 up. As far as performance mods go I rank it ahead of even my FCR's and 900ss engine swap simply for the enormous improvement in ride comfort and handling. If I did it all over I would have done the shock, suspension riders, and new PR3's before I did my FCR's and engine swap.

Only prob is now I have to address the front forks...maybe *then* my bike will be done. :)

*just an afterthought; if you're wanting high mounts for aesthetic reasons (the stock cans are def fugly) why not consider an undermount system like a Quat-D or see if that Roadracing exhaust is still available in the classifieds? that, combined with an open airbox and jet kit was my very first mod and it increased the power of the bike noticeably, as well as made it look wayyyy better.

Thanks for all the input guys.

As for the exhaust would I be able to make this fit my bike? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ducati-Monster-900-ss-Carbon-Fiber-Full-Exhaust-high-mount-kit-93-98-/290947362685?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ADucati&hash=item43bdd06f7d&vxp=mtr (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ducati-Monster-900-ss-Carbon-Fiber-Full-Exhaust-high-mount-kit-93-98-/290947362685?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ADucati&hash=item43bdd06f7d&vxp=mtr)

Or does the 900 have a dif diameter pipe?

I'm liking the $ but not sure of the no name...

That is an early Ducati Performance full system made by Gia Cal Moto, though the last photo has different mufflers.   Header pipe length is different than the 750.  The full system will want carburetor jetting.
