First time poster looking for help. If I'm posting in the wrong section, please feel free to move my query.
I'm interested in purchasing a 1999 monster city 900 w/ 8k miles for $2800. The seller says the bike has been dropped resulting in a dented tank, replaced handlebars and mirrors and minor scuffing on the muffler etc. The valves were supposedly replaced 2 years with reg oil changes and has been stored with a battery tender when not ridden.
Is this a reasonable price for a bike in this condition and what should I specifically look for, in terms of possible red flag issues, when I test ride it?

Valves replaced or adjusted?
Ask how old the belts are. They should be replaced every 2 years. It would cost ~$100 plus labor unless you do it yourself. It could cost thousands if one fails.
Tires should be replaced every 3 years.
How bad are the dents? Look for fuel weeping from the hinge area. It's a common problem on Monsters, especially with tank damage.
Otherwise the price isn't bad IMO.

I'll ask about the belts and valves ; if there is fuel leaking from the hinge area, how much it would cost to fix something like that? thanks for the response

You can do it all yourself if you can weld, or have the hinge braze reinforced by a local welder and do the coating yourself

I'm in the chicagoland area, don't really have any idea who would do ducati specific work around here. Its good to have that price number to work off though. I'd need to find a pro; based on past experiences, nothing good would come from pairing me up with a weld torch.
If the welder is any good he can do the repair and end up having the heat damage confined to the underside and in the area hidden by the seat. Prime it and don't worry.
The coating is not rocket science and only takes some time, patience, and the ability to follow instructions.
If you buy the bike and plan to have the dents fixed they should be repaired before coating the tank.
Monster City has different bars.
Just wanted to reiterate what DP said. Check age of tires, belts and when the valve check was done. Belts are every 2 years and the valve check/adjustment is based of off miles. Tank dents don't need to be fixed, but if you're leaking gas at the hinge, get it fixed. Personally, if I had a dented tank and/or leaking hinge, I'd send it to DP for a repair and custom paint.....although I love the blue of the City.
