Title: Vented pressure plate recommendations?
Post by: d3vi@nt on July 28, 2013, 03:14:08 PM
Thinking about replacing my stock, dry clutch pressure plate. I like the idea of the vented, as it's supposed to reduce temps by 10% and help reduce dust.

Clutch will be closed, so I don't care about the bling factor and prefer relatively inexpensive. Reduced weight would be good, though I no it won't net much performance-wise.

Thanks!

If you are keeping it closed I would not bother replacing the pressure plate. The weight difference is minimal and being closed the dust and temperatures will not be helped by a vented plate. Use your money for something else.  [thumbsup]

Yep.. venting to an tightly enclosed space won't do a thing for you. If you're not going to use an open cover at all, then don't bother.

Set your clutch freeeeeeee

But really, unless you're pretty hard on the clutch it's not going to get that much hotter than the cast off heat from the engine. It's race/track day/ or heavy duty canyon work that's going to add in significant amounts of heat from the frequent gear changes slipping in down shifts etc.

For me it's the combination of idling at stop lights and an outside temp of 100 degrees. I got up to 251 degrees for a spell today with this clutch set-up.

Jus' looks purty I s'pect.  :-\  I doubt if it made much or any difference in my clutch temp.

The part to help with engine and clutch temp would be one of those aftermarket oil coolers.
