Just dropped my 796 after owning it only 5 months. Not sure exactly what happened, but I must have hit the front brake during a very slow speed turn in my neighborhood. Embarrassing. Anyway I have a small scratch on the back of the mirror, scuff on the clutch lever, and a scuff on the handlebar end. I also have a very tiny ding on the plastic tank cover where the handlebar pushed into it.
When I turn the handlebar all the way left now, it touches the tank slightly (doesn't touch the tank when I turn it all the way to the right). Is there an adjustment for that? I drove it for a while afterward and it seems to handle fine.
What else should I check to make sure everything is ok?2
Check the steering stops on the frame and lower triple.
Either the bars are bent or the stop is.
If it isn't cracked it can be adjusted.
This really should be in tech. I'm going to move it.
Thanks. The steering stop is slightly bent in. Should I just adjust the stop bolt or try to bend the steering stop back?
Sorry for posting in wrong forum originally.
Adjust it. Easier and you don' risk FUBARing the stop.
No help here but sorry to hear about your bike :(. Thanks for posting so I'll get some tips. Best of luck.
I adjusted the stop bolt so the handlebar stops before hitting the tank. Pretty simple thing to do and only required a regular wrench to loosen the nut and a hex wrench to turn the bolt.
Sad I dropped the bike, but at least I learned something new. Now I have an excuse to buy bar end mirrors since the old ones and the handlebar ends are all scuffed up.
