Title: Front end 'clicking' Post by: coduc on August 02, 2013, 06:20:41 AM A while back I bought some used 748 forks and re-sprung/oil/valved them and anodized the uppers and milled out my upper triple to fit and shimmed the lowers and put on clipons. The mod turned out nice looking. Ever since I've noticed a slight 'clicking' I can feel in the front end when on the brakes most noticeably. I suspected that it might be worn slider bushings, so I disassembled the forks and replaced them with new....Nothing changed and it never got any worse.
A few weeks a go I replaced my tires (f/r) and while the wheels were off, I wiggled the lower part of the fork and noticed play between it and the upper stanchion. It's not a ton of play, but more than I'm really super comfortable with. I also noticed when I bought the forks, the sliders have some wear in the chrome more than nominal. With all the new parts in the forks, I find it hard to believe this is how they should feel. could the wear in the sliders be enough to cause this play? There is slightly more than normal weeping from the fork seals over time. Title: Re: Front end 'clicking' Post by: Silver King on August 02, 2013, 10:32:15 AM Weird. I would have suspected worn bushings as well or head bearings. The weeping oil and the thin chrome (on the fork tubes I believe is what you mean) is highly suspect. You may need a new one. I think you can get them recoated but I don't have any experience in this at all. For peace of mind, check all bolts from wheel, calipers, triple tree, and even check head bearings. I, personally, would want all of those things checked off on a list.
