Title: HELP! I screwed my Clutch Lever up
Post by: Kabulpostie on August 04, 2013, 06:58:27 AM
So I got Pazzo levers for my S2R1K changed the brake side with no problem. When I went to do the clutch side I stripped the allen head on the set screw [bang]. This is after applying heat and liquid wrench, that thing did not want to come out. So because one act of stupidity should never be left alone I used vice grips to rotate the other piece out buggering the threads [bang] [bang] [bang] [bang]. It will still work, but are there replacement pieces that can be readily had or easy fixes? I just got on the bike after almost a year away and rode it back from the shop last night..I'm pretty sure I can make it work short term but sure wouldn't feel comfortable. Please Help this idiot.

You can chase the threads to see if you can repair them. The Sears nearby has one of those display stands with a demo thread repairing tool. You could bring your bolt in and see if it will fit the pitch of the display tool and get a free repair. I'll admit, it may be a longshot :)

For the setscrew, you could try to carefully epoxy an allen wrench in there. Make sure you don't get epoxy where it shouldn't be (i.e. the threads).

When I changed my levers the set screw did not want to budge, I used a wrench to move the actuating rod a little bit, and the set screw then came out easily. The amount of damage to the threads on the rod were minimal.

Thanks for the replies. It went back in ok and is functioning fine, however it's bugging me just knowing it's there, so since I am planning on riding down to Seattle Ducati anyway I'm going to check and see if they have the parts on hand.
