Title: New EVR Clutch Whining On Loaded Engagement & Acceleration
Post by: hjeducaty on August 07, 2013, 08:54:07 AM
Hi-
Just put a new EVR 48-tooth basket and clutch pak (NOT slipper) into my '05 Monster 1000DS.  In the process:
1) pulled the release rod, cleaned, checked and greased (Mobil 1 syn) o-rings
2) replaced throw-out bearing in pressure plate
3) checked and lub'd the spacer and hub o-rings
4) blue loctited the the 8 basket screws on assembly
5) put in new Barnett Heavy Duty springs
6) re-used orginal hub, pressure plate and cover
7) installed concave steel plate in recommended location dot facing out.
8) installed pressure plate with lines aligned to hub.
9) bled slave cylinder
I noticed on reassembly EVR basket is a bit thicker (Wider)  and hence I had to
dispense with the standard gasket between the cover and the case (it would rub)
so I am just using the the brass spacers to offset the cover from the housing
and to make sure the cover doesnt interfere with the clutch assembly.
When the clutch is engaged, only under load, either when driving or if I have it
on the rear wheel stand and put in gear, i get a whining sound as the clutch is
engaged that continues as I accelerate.  The whining begins during the
engagement when you would expect some "slippage" and is very noticeable.  After
engagement, its RPM, not gear, dependent. I'm not noticing any slipping.  No
whining in neutral, whether revving or not. It also appears to go away if not
under load such as when a back off on accelerating.  it happens under mild or
heavy acceleration.  I'm using the provided stack: 9 metal and 7 clutch disks.
The clutch seems to engage and disengage fine.  I can find neutral fine. Has
about 100 miles on it now.  I took the assembly completely apart again last
night to see if something was binding somewhere and could not see anything
wrong.   Friction plates starting to show some hints of smoothin/glazing.  (Is
this normal?) Whine is still there upon reassembly.  Any thoughts?
Thx

I have a similar sut up on my s4r 07 I used the evr smooth take off pressure plate and a billet hub with the 48 th sintered material and speedy Moto clutch springs and caps.i did notice the basket is wider using a open cover. The 48th does sound different thank stock but does not wine.

Thx  Silver,
I'm thinking about putting the old clutch back on to see if the whining goes away. Sound is kinda like when you engage a lawn mower blade...kinda of a rubbery engagement sound and whine.  Can't think of anything that would do that after engagement. Cush drive might do that on engagement but not after...
