Title: Powder Coating/Painting the Swingarm and rear monshock spring on a 620 Post by: The ModFather on August 08, 2013, 04:09:22 PM I'm thinking about removing the swingarm and getting it powdercoated black and while Im at it painting the spring some other color than the current yellow. I've got a Hayes manual but was looking for any tips or caveats on removing the swing arm or painting the spring I know this is a pretty common mod here so please any guidance would be appreciated. How difficult is removing the swing arm?

lift the bike with your stand, take the rear wheel off and then find a way to support it just enough that the shock/spring loose tension and start from there. I did part of the job, the other part was done for me, I replaced my rear shock but painted an ADSS black . . . They're black from the get-go.

Powder coating isn't very flexible.
Unless you're a string bean the stock spring is probably too light for you. There are a lot of charts out there but I find the Penske chart suits me best. Find the right spring rate and then find a spring in the color you like. Maybe even one of the Ti springs if you can find one. They look great forever. |
