A few weeks ago I rode a Honda xr-10 and f1 at a go cart track.  It was so much fun.  I want to ride more there and it will help me work on my problem areas for the road.

My question is what should I look out for when buying used?  I have no clue about this bikes and any informative info on this bike is greatly appreciated.

XR10 ?!?!?!....do you mean XR100/CRF100 ?!?!?!?....looking for the right information on the bike before looking for it might help a touch...

Yep, like I said I don't know squat about the bikes beginning with the names as you pointed out..  Thanks for the correction.  Now what info can you share about looking for a used one and general info about the bikes?

well...are you planning on riding it in parking lots with shinko's/trailwing's on it mini moto style, or in the dirt/fields flat track style? what is your budget? ( both for aquisition and for mods ) 

I beat the ever loving shit out of mine and it always ran great. i picked up mine for $600 so cheap ones are to be had.  Stay away from nikes with a lose cam chain and HAVE FUN!. XR100's are way to much fun. As with most honda dirtbikes, its pretty easy to uncork.  I would get a rim lock or you will shred back tubes.

Holy crap, how have I never heard of this bike.  Looks like what I need for poking around the property, and it's CHEAP. ;D  Found several locally for $600-$800.

Question: I weigh 240 lbs (with gear).  Will this little bugger be able to haul my lard-a$$ up hills?  We have some steep terrain on the property... steep enough you have to put the truck and the tractor into 4WD because tires start slipping in 2WD.

get some heavy springs from BBR and you'de be quite surprised I'd bet....

Looking for road racing ready to take to nearby mini kart racing track.  the one my buddy had cost about $5000.  He put R1 rotor and brakes on it.  Races the f1 class i think.  Out of my budget new but curious how much used one is.
I also road at the mini track crf100 but felt no power but with that less power its all about riding skill at race as cant make up position using power.  There is a club there that races them.  I want to practice and join.

I would go for the XR200 if I was you trying to go up hills and stuff. Its bigger than the 100 but its still pretty little.
If you don't get a long enough wheel base your butt is going to be hanging off the back. That means the CG is going to be over the rear fender and that little 100 is going to squirt right out from under you going up the hill. The Kid in the picture looks to be about 12.

the popular mod is actually to put a YZ85 front end on so you can get a 17" hoop for a slick or racing tire set-up with a disk brake and USD forks. Most clubs that race them pay very special attention to regulations in class, like bore for example( and with an expectation to prove you are stock under tech inspection if need be). Bead locks are not a bad suggestion by Brix, but most that I have seen spend a bit of time re-truing the wheel and all was good. BBR makes a whole catalog of goodies which you can spend a ton of $$ on for the bike ( kinda like Monsterparts or PJ's for our bikes for example) .


Dan- actually as a middle ground, I would actually look for a CRF-150F...slightly bigger frame but still good plunkin around torque and power for even the fattest of asses ( seen 300+lb'rs riding them!)

I think the best mini or mid size bike is the CRF150r, watercooled more HP, USD forks, and big wheels. All of the F's are aircooled, 100f, 150f, 230f with conventional forks. Many upgrades available just to get these bikes to the level the 150r is from the factory.

A few years ago i picked up a 150f with 175 bore kit, head works, cams, bigger carb, CR80 forks and CR85 rear shock. This little bike rips!!, so much fun for such a little bike. Its the only dirtbike i have now and it can do everything i want it to do just fine. A little cramped when standing up, and the light weight beats you up a bit on longer rides. Am missing the  ground clearance of a full size bike but that only matters if your doing some step ups or bigger rocks. If i needed to replace id get the 150r with the big wheel setup.

be aware...the CRF150R is an all around better machine than the CRF150F, but at a price...the Unicam motor is more maintenance intensive in comparison and has a bit of peakyness similar in certain ways to a 2 stroke. If you go the CRF150R route, do not buy an 07 unless it has an 08 or newer motor. There ( IIRC) were a few bugs that needed to get ironed out in that package.

Good info on the 150r.  I got spoiled riding that and want one.  But everyone is telling me that I should start with less powered ones and hone in technique at the mini go kart track.

start with a z50r or similar with a 125 Lifan engine.......you'll have a blast. [evil]

The 150r is the less powerful one to start on. Most proper adult size bikes are 125 2t and 250 4t. the 150r is a kids bike. Were only talking ~25hp here. The thing you want is the proper suspension that comes with the 150r, that will make the difference. Unless you can get one (100, 150f, 230f) that has been converted, its just a toy.

I have a CRF50 with an 88 kit and adult suspension its stupid fun.  [thumbsup]
