Title: timing belt change worries Post by: sleepyJ on August 26, 2013, 09:06:53 AM i know theres a lot of threads on timing belts.. but id appreciate some help.
Im in the middle of replacing my timing belts and im scared to turn my bike on. took out spark plugs, put the bike in highest gear, check the gear marks and the flywheel mark and they lined up, took the belts off and replaced them. everything looks aligned and sits properly. (skeptical I may of been at vertical tdc and not horizontal tdc) NOW... the flywheel mark and the gear marks line up perfectly at one point (horizontal tdc?). when I rotate another 360 degrees so the gear marks line up, the flywheel mark is a few mm off (vertical tdc?). when I rotate another 360 degrees they are perfectly aligned again. (back at horizontal TDC??) is it supposed to look this way or should the flywheel mark for vertical TDC also be perfectly aligned when I rotate it once... did I perhaps change the belts while the vertical was at TDC instead of the horizontal? I can only assume the flywheel mark should be aligned for both horizontal and vertical. im quite flustered so forgive me and my brain Title: Re: timing belt change worries Post by: Bladecutter on August 26, 2013, 01:32:29 PM Remember, the crankshaft has to turn 2 times (720 degrees) for every 1 turn of the camshafts.
