Title: REDBIKE TOURS -Trip back on issue resolved.
Post by: Skybarney on August 27, 2013, 12:14:20 PM
The issue has been resolved: I do not wish to slam them online as I think they are good folks that got caught in a bad situation.  Yes, it would have been nice to know three days beforehand that there was a back rest issue, but at least they did everything in their power to make it right.  Frustrating but crap happens so I am gonna drop it and go for a ride.  [Dolph]

Hi Guys,  I spent a fair bit of today trying to find a solution to the issue.  I am going to chalk it up to a new company.  I met the owner of REDBIKE over at A&S and they were willing to do anything it took to get us on the road as promised.  We found a nice BMW semi-soft bag that with some tweaking became a back rest.

Sometimes bad things happen to good people and I think this the case.  Yes it would have been nice to have known about the issue with the bag before we met up.  Yes it put us off a day.  However after meeting with both Ryan and John I somewhat regret posting the review.  When upset the longer I stew the worse it is.....

Anyway REDBIKE TOURS is doing everything they can and I think them decent folks despite the issues, so I am going to pull the review.

Life's too short brother....I have no problem with alerting us to a poorly run business. The whole enemy thing is a bit much. They aren't worth your time.

And you can't undo all the views this will get if they do resolve it so taking it down later isn't really cool. They either failed or they didn't. Maybe give it a bit more time.

Hbliam,  By "enemy" I meant that it will be a simple matter to keep the posts about what happened alive all over the internet.  If save one other person from being jerked around or from having their GF cry it is worth it.  She is so upset I can't even describe.  This vacation was promised all year and she was about 50 times more excited than myself....  At this point I won't pull it down or wait any longer for a resolution, they had their chance.  Now I have to find some way to cheer her up or it's going to be a bad week.

Not to mention I love nearly 5k in business taking this week off.  [bang]

Not to be a dick...
but have you ever tried to get parts for a ducati – aftermarket or factory – in 3 days?
It sucks that it "ruined your trip," but give the guys a chance to make it right before you light the internet-incendiary-torch...

If your GF is so upset over missing out on a local vacation that you can't even describe the level of her grief then you have bigger problems. And you do know it's Tuesday right? Rent a b!tchin car and go on your trip.

or see if bobspapa will rent you his Ural for $250 a day.

To be fair, they could have easily replaced the top case with an ebay, craigslist, Amazon, Advrider, etc., purchase within a day or so. It does sound like they dropped the ball I just don't get as "incensed" so easily....anymore.  :)

That the rental company failed to supply the bike with a required piece of equipment, that they had three days to find a topbox (its not like its a specialist Ducati item.... I'm sure something new/used suitable coulda been found), that even in their last opportunity to make it right they imagined returning with that smashed up POS would be adequate to meet anybody's needs....  really is a disappointing let down.  Piss-poor attention to detail and shabby half-arsed effort to make it right.

That you abandon your whole trip, creating disappointment to the point of anger and tears... over a missing piece of luggage... strikes me as sooky-la-la in the extreme.  Seriously mate, demand a small discount for your inconvenience, strap any old friggin' bag to the back and go enjoy your  [Dolph].

And it's cool as hell. I think the GF would enjoy a trip on the Ural much more then the back of a Multi. And if she gets unruly you can just pull that pin like in the movies and unhook the sidecar at speed.

I'm pretty patient and understanding and I can see how many would say to chill out a bit, butt this is really unacceptable. They had 3 DAYS to sort this out.

I, for one, appreciate the heads-up, and will not be using RedBike rentals.

It's not like the Multi topcase is unobtanium... especially in the Ducati mecca of California.  If this was the middle of Timbuktu with no Ducati dealer within 200 miles, I'd be a little more understanding.  3 days is *plenty* of time to have that fixed and ready to go, or to *minimally* notify your client of the potential problem.

+11tybillion.

And a Ural w/sidecar rental and touring business sounds like the shizzle!

Tell that to my GF (then duck)...  I am still having a hard sell with the beemer semi soft pack.  Did  I mention it was the one week a month that she is extra sensitive?  I think it rubs off on me...... :-[

Just think how much better this all would have gone (and looked) if you had given them a chance to resolve it before flaming them here.

Since the OP's rethink and subsequent removal of his original post....  responses to that original post no longer hold much relevance and appear out of context.... but I'll let my comments stand unedited anyway.

Good luck with that  :).

I have to admit that I've quietly admired your endeavouring "can-do" attitude.  Anybody who can face up to $60k potential bill, deal with that and turn it to advantage....  face the destruction of losing your house to bushfire and turn that to your advantage....  clearly demonstrates some resilience  [clap].  Which made your original dummy-spit here all the more surprising.

3 days to fix a problem and turning up without a word about it is just hoping they'll get away with it with a piss poor excuse.

making the person who rented the bike act like an arse simply to get what they paid for really pisses me off.

service is their business.  solving a problem after the fact because the person paying for the service didn't get what they asked for and expected and had to act like an arse is not service.

let it stand I say.  won't stop people using them, but those who read this will be wary and might remind them of this post when they do rent.

i'm pretty mild myself, but my wife wouldn't gone nuts too.

Speeeddog,  I am much more resilient than my GF.   [roll]  I spent almost three hours last night patiently waiting to resolve it and all day today, including an 80 mile ride to the shop. Most importantly it took a bit of effort and giving them several chances to make it right, to get it right.  In all fairness, I had a right to spew.  Did I mention it is also our five year anniversary trip?

I rode across town and was at the dealership when they walked in and were they not trying to fix it I would have left the review up.  I am a pretty fair guy and despite it taking 24 hours to get it right, multiple phone calls and posting a negative review at least I was man enough to come back on to post it was resolved.  Thanks to DP for having a place we can all talk and a place where community helps resolve issues.  Most importantly it helped my mindset to vent a bit, got to put the anger somewhere.

All in all I met up with the owner and the manager tonight and we are all on a happy page.  They really are good guys and I can understand what happened and why.  That they made it right, is why I pulled it down.  They are also a new company and working some things out still.  No harm no foul I am only out a day and some stress.

I will rent from them again when needed.  Now I am off to rebook hotels.....

We actually got along quite well.  The owner and I have some mutual friends in ballooning  [thumbsup]   Andthey gave me a better deal then I asked for as well as getting together for a couple of rides.  They felt bad about what happpened so I also get to ride the Pani when I get back!

What looked really bad, became good.  Mostly due to my continued efforts to make it work despite being upset.  All things usually work out in the end.  Now I am off to go play for a few days!

Ciao!

So you were the guy that got mad at the Sac Bike Night on Monday and made a small scene.
I do not personally know Redbike Tours or am associated with them. I have met Ryan twice and he seems like a very nice guy. One thing I can say I witnessed Ryan scramble at a bike meet to get you a suitable backrest. The bike was parked on the street with all of the others and he went to wrenching. I am pretty sure they were not under the impression of you needing one otherwise they would of called you ahead of time about the issue.

Again I have no ties with Redbike, just stating what I saw on Monday. There are two sides to every story.

Anyone in my position would have gotten mad,  especially given that I did not know them and had waited two hours for a solution.  Turns out they are good guys that got stuck in a bad spot.  I am also a good guy that got stuck in a bad spot.  In the end it worked out just as it should have; cold beer, pizza, mutual understanding and respect.  I am even going to wash the heck out of the bike before returning it ( :

As for the ride, I lost some hotel reservations getting the bike handled but we still managed to find places to stay and had a great time on the Multi.  2350 miles ridden in six days.  Up the Pacific Coast Highway to Canada then back down through the Columbia River Gorge, Crater Lake, Klamath Falls and Lassen Park.  So much gorgeous stuff and back country roads I can't even describe.  The girl did amazing with the ride, even with the 110mph drift in one turn  :o  Despite the bike having a new tires (Pirelli Angels) I rode the last 100 miles with cord showing on the center rear and the edges gone.  She was loaded pretty heavy.

The Multi is an amazing bike and I would highly recommend that anyone that wants to try one out in the area give REDBIKE a call.  Now I am off to go make some cash as I could used to owning both a Monster and a Multi.  I even like the way it looks in the garage, although the dog wants a sidecar.....

It did not just work out, it worked out great.  I am actually thinking of trading my 2013 6k mile Monster EVO 1100 for the 2012 10k mile Multistrada S.  I got an offer that may be difficult to refuse.........  STRAIGHT ACROSS!

Love the Monster but damn the Multi goes just as fast if not faster and it does not hurt my back ( :
