Title: Rearset advice
Post by: Woodyjbh on September 06, 2013, 05:14:20 PM

Team,

Got a 2001 Monster 600 as my first bike and I'm having a ball. The only problem Im having is after years of abuse my right knee is in pretty bad shape and on longer rides it becomes quite uncomfortable.

Its been suggested by friends that I check out some sort of adjustable rearset which will allow me to lower or change the footrest position making it 'slightly' more comfortable on the longer days.

I've seen the two on the Ducati parts site that are available but is there any others out there and what good modification part sites are out there??

Cheers for the help,

Woody

i dunno if you are going to get one that will locate the footpeg lower as you will be struggling for ground clearance

most will move them up and back

check on ebay there is some adjustable footpegs only which might help you a bit

alternative could be to have some brackets made to reposition the stock rearset

Possible alternative is to take your seat to an upholstery shop and ask for more padding.

Puts you up higher without sacrificing ground clearance, and gives your arse more cushion. Seems pretty win-win.

Thanks guys. Those last two are really helpful.

Im actually thinking of a combination of extra padding and the dropped pegs. Hopefully, should be enough to get me by.

Its only a starter bike so i dont want to get to carried away with mods etc when Im only gonna move it on in the next 12-24 months.

Cheers.

Woody

FTR: It is nearly impossible to resist the mod bug on these bikes.  Everytime I think I'm going to sell my 900 for some newer, fancier bike, I take it for a ride and decide I will never sell it and that I'm going to dump 10k more into it because I never want to let it go.

I just rode with my local Desmo group and one of the guys has a 2000 600 that he bought new.  That was 100k miles ago.  Rather than move onto another bike, he just bought ones to complement the Duc (I think he has an SS and some old hondas).
