Title: Up grade to s4 or s4rs
Post by: dmb80 on September 08, 2013, 02:40:57 AM
Hi peeps
Just after a bit of advice. Thinking of upgrading
To a s4 or s4rs. I have a s2r1k at the moment
I have looked through all the forums and
Websites. A lot of them are say the servicing
Is a lot more and they need more adjustments
Regularly due to being a 4 valve.  All advice would be much
Appreciated.

i will ask why the upgrade ?

what do you think you are lacking in what you have now ?

I'd second that.
What do you think you are missing in the S2R1k?

Though I love my bike I'd ride it a lot more if it was a 2V.
It is a far more usable bike and engine for 95% of the riding that we do.

As to servicing, if you tend to do lot's of klm's then yes you'd spend more on servicing but I have not found a 4V prohibitive.

i took both bikes for rides were i would be doing most of my riding and s2r was more rideable than s4r the s4r was more work , but if your in to hoon type riding and want to do wheelies coming out of corners then s4r is your bike alot of fun but very tiring as for the s4 same power asthe s2r but heavier bike just the torque  and hp are made higher up so to cut it short if u like to rev a bike then get the s4r there all sexy so it a personal thing cheers bazz

The S4R is a great bike, the 996 engine is lots of fun, servicing any 4v is going to cost more than a 2 valve engine but it's not double and i would say that as they make more power you don't necessarilly rev it as hard so valve clearances tend to stay within tolerance for longer. i had mine for 9 years and 30k klms and it had maybe 4 shims need changing the whole time, that said they are known to have issues with the rockers flaking off their chrome which can get pricey to fix, there's plenty of options with exchange rockers and not all are good quality so be aware!

The S4RS/S4RT with the testastretta 998 engine is the only serious option, much better engine, no reliability issues or known internal issues and more than enough power as a monster, great value these days too, if you can find one.....
