Title: Brake pads ?
Post by: TimB on September 22, 2013, 12:44:30 AM
I was just wondering what replacement brake pads you guys are using or recommend. I've been trying to decide between the EBC HH sintered or the EBC organics. I'm not doing any racing, just your basic street riding and commuting. I'm looking for low dust and a good feel. I own a 796 if it matters at all.

I was just wondering what all your opinions where on pads? What works well and what doesn't.

Thanks

My HH grade sintered pads was a big step up in performance - in very spirited road riding, track days and racing - not so good when wet and/or cold.

For what you describe - go organic  [thumbsup]

I was kinda leaning towards the organics, but I've heard a lot of good things about the HH pads. I was thinking the HH pads could end up squealing or grinding my rotors away, but than I was wondering if the organics would leave dust all over everything.

FWIW, I've run nothing but EBC HH pads on my last four bikes and have never heard squeals nor been able to see excessive rotor wear, much less "grinding" !?!

As for organics, would you be expected to wear Birkenstock riding boots with them.........sorry, couldn't resist my natural distrust of the plethora of "environmentally friendly" products. Many products but little bottom line analysis and heavy on emotional bias.  [evil]

I don't think the term 'organic' when applied to brake pads means anything other than there is no metal in them.

HH+ pads will serve very well and won't eat up OEM stainless rotors.

I have found the HH pads to be heavy in saturated fats and corn syrup.  I try to stick to the organic stuff these days.  ;D

Silly me. I thought they were grown without the use of pesticides and artificial fertilizers.  :P

I believe the fact that they do not contain metal is what distinguishes the composition difference, while the impetus for that was for a more ecological friendly pad. Myself, I prefer a mean pad.  :)

You might be right...

If I was running ductile iron rotors I'd get crunchy... ;)

otherwise give me the HH+
