Hi all,
I have just bought an as new 1100 evo 2012 model with 2000 klms on it and as luck would have it work has meant I haven't ridden it all that much.
I was showing it off to some friends the other day and when I started it on its side stand some puffs of blue smoke came out the exhaust - blue = oil yeah?
Is it possible that a 2000klm 18month old bike could have bad valve stem seals? Oil level is correct(although right on the upper mark). Or is it a trait of V twins that a bit of oil collects in the front cylinder?
Never happened on any of my other dukes!
On a cool morning my Duc will emit bluish gray from the exhaust on start up, but it's actually moisture not smoke.
Put your hand there...it won't feel oily I bet.
Will do = thanks for the tip.
Can I ask do you check oil level after starting and running the bike for a few minutes or when its dead cold?
Manual just says cold

To be honest...
If the level is between the marks, regardless of engine temp...
I call it good.
Very prudent approach.
Unfortunately I'm one of those OCD tyes that likes to get it exactly full - not too little - not too much!
I wish I was more like you!
I might use this as a stepping stone to a new me :)
Or ---- maybe not!

According to the guy I learned about Ducs from...
between the marks is
exactly full. ;)
Touche!
You have a wise master
And you are an ardent student grasshopper!
I just did what you suggested and yes - same puff of smoke but absolutely no oil residue.
Thanks for your advice
The guy that taught me knows a couple of things about the bikes we ride.
