Fans love the street courses. They are dangerous, but unlike Bike racers they take the challenge. Other than the IOM. ;) Title: Re: Dario Franchitti's IRL Crash Post by: Drjones on October 08, 2013, 05:35:22 AM Moto racers don't have a carbon fiber crash tub around them as well as designed breakaway parts that disipate crash energy. ;)
For a race fan street courses are a snore since a lot of the race ends up being a parade behind the safety car. Maybe they're popular with the Nascrap crowd or general population who're only entertained by flying car parts. But, they'll still be around since they're cheap to setup and can be held in major population centers. i.e. $$$$$$$ for the promoters and sponsers. All that said, I was there in Turn 1 on Sunday. The stands were about 15 ft away from the racing line, so yeah, things could go pear shaped if a car hit the catch fence. Oh yeah, the Pirelli World GT/GTS race was a lot better than the Indy race. Cadilac vs Audi battle was epic. Title: Re: Dario Franchitti's IRL Crash Post by: jjjrules on October 08, 2013, 05:44:13 AM Fans love the street courses. The last statistics I read on the IRL's TV viewership is around 200,000 per race watch it on NBC Sports. That's not very good. Now, with so much free time on his hands, wonder if he'll be teaming with The Ben in Texas's first Haggis restaurant? |
