Hey all. I have no rear break. While pushed completely down, bike still moves forward. I have plenty of break fluid in reservoir. Watched a video to bleed brakes on 848, 1098, and/or 1198. He kept the caliper on, used a mityvac to purge the system. Looking here, I found a tread by dirtyduc which removes the caliper, to be raised above the reservoir, so that all the air can be purged. Is removing the caliper necessary or is the vacuum created by one of these vac sufficient to purge the system. No offense to dirtyduc. How often do you change break fluid? Thanks in advance.
Remove the caliper, orient it so the bleeder is up, and slip a shim between the pads.
Then bleed as normal.
Yep, the key is to have the bleed nipple oriented up so the air bubbles can escape and not get trapped. No need to raise it above the reservoir.
