Title: Stalling issues (not the same as others) Post by: hyphen on July 07, 2008, 11:09:48 PM Well, I've had my '05 S4R for a few weeks now and I have almost 600 miles on it. My buddy dropped the oil and checked the belts and everything was fine. But more recently when I start up the motor it will stall a few times after take-off. For instance, in the morning I'll warm up to about 140 degrees (like I usually do), then turn the assister off, get into to first and take off. But right when the rpms come down it stalls. I'll ignite while still moving (i'm in traffic by this time) and continue. Sometimes it happens 3 or 4 times before it stops stalling.
This will occur after work as well. Ignite, warm up, take off, stall, ignite, take off, stall, etc. Am I just not warming up enough? It can be quite embarrassing being stuck at a green light while starting up my motor because I stalled through no fault of my own (at least I don't think so). Title: Re: Stalling issues (not the same as others) Post by: hyphen on July 07, 2008, 11:21:21 PM I forgot to add that the bike will not idle from a cold start without the fast-idle/fuel enrichener at least half-way on. It will just stall.

Title: Re: Stalling issues (not the same as others) Post by: Howie on July 08, 2008, 02:21:09 PM The idle speed is a little low. A bump up in idle speed and throttle synch should fix you up.

Title: Re: Stalling issues (not the same as others) Post by: clubhousemotorsports on July 09, 2008, 05:55:53 AM there will be a sticker I think under your seat that gives a target idle, I believe on your bike it will be around 1200rpm +-100rpm.
raising the idle will also raise your throttle position sensor and richen the mixture (because the bike thinks the throttle is opening). Bumping up the idle first will be a good test . there is a 7 or 8 mm hex bolt with a screwdriver slot in the top, it is on the right side of the horiz. throttle body. there is usually some yellow goo (like wax) that locks it in place. try turning the bolt clockwise untuil the idle is correct and then ride the bike to see if it is acceptable. If not I would suggest taking it in for a full efi set-up. If you are about to start modding the hell out of the bike take it in after you have played with the exhaust and airbox. [thumbsup] |
