He led into that a little last night.
No tv or cable for the last 7 years. Over the past 22 years I have had TV for maybe a total of 3 years.

No Cable for me since 2003, and the TV has been in the barn since 2010.
Which is not to say that I don't find ways to watch once in a while.....just not at home.
Almost a year without DirectTV.
Seems like we watch just as much TV though having Netflix and an antenna for the local stations [thumbsdown]

Its true, I still use my brothers subscription to Netflix, but I really just watch movies. Since I can read the news on the interwebs, and I don't watch sports of any kind, I have no use for any stations, local or otherwise.
The funny part is my girlfriend moves in beginning of summer, were trying to figure out what to do with two 50" plasmas when we have no cable and barely watch enough to justify ONE tv...
My wife and I decided not to get cable or satellite when we moved into our place together when we got married.
I don't miss it at all.
So far (almost 7 months), there hasn't been a single thing I've wanted to watch live that I couldn't find streaming on the internet for free.
Most sporting events that I care about, I go watch at a bar with friends. But several MotoGP races that were early in the morning, or World Series games when I had to work the next day, no problem finding them online. Along with a couple of new episodes of The Walking Dead and Hell on Wheels when I didn't feel like going out to watch them.
I have a 65" LCD screen that I only use for playing Grand Theft Auto and watching things on Netflix. I need to figure out how to stream things off the internet through my PS3 so I can stop watching them on my laptop.

If you find out please share.
I have to be coming close to the 1 year mark with no cable. With Netflix and Amazon its no big deal.
I have netflix, amazon, and cable. Cable is fantastic.
Time Warner's customer service was far from fantastic when I used to deal with them.
Same for AT&T UVerse.
And getting bent over by their billing department wasn't exactly what I would call "fantastic" either.

I turned on Verizon Fios in 2005. Our neighborhood was the first neighborhood built out in CA when it started. I had Time Warner which constantly went down, internet issues, billing problems, etc. Fios has never been down a single time ever. Customer service has been fine on the two or three times in eight years that I have needed to call to change features or whatever. Now it's all done online. I dumped their boxes for a tivo and a cable card to save money and use a Roku for UFC but other then that it's fantastic.
As far as direct streaming to the tv, what about chromecast?

Funny you should mention that...
Right after I posted that, I jumped on ebay and ordered an adapter to hook an HDMI cable to my laptop.

16 years without cable here ;D
I have Direct TV... But that's just for the football. The rest of the time, I usually only watch Netflix.
My wife and Father wont let me get rid of Dish. Dish is fine, I even watch it. But if I could make it go by by, I wouldn't miss it a bit. Wouldn't miss the $118 a month bill either.

Exactly. I went from around $220 a month with the comcrap triple play down to about $80 for internet only. I did pay a little extra to keep the "bonus" speed they lump in with the triple play package.
The real issues ive got with it: $140/mo for cable or $10/mo for netflix...and netflix is commercial free. How does THAT make sense. That being said, I would probably pay $5/mo per channel if I could get ONLY the channels I want. (Thinks like DIY, Discovery, HGTV, Velocity...) They offer "700" channels, 30% are in another language, 25% are music stations that suck even compared to FREE pandora, and then you get 14 versions of the home shopping network. Please. [bang]

I went from about $220 a month to $138 with Fios +Tivo. Ditching the fios boxes and buying the tivo box saved a bunch and dumping phone service saved even more. They show phone as only being about $20 of the package but when you dump it you save about $50 with all the taxes/fees. I had Netflix but just cancelled it. They really don't have any brand new current TV and all the movies are available on amazon prime for free. I also have a Roku to watch UFC. UFC on Roku is way better because it's $10 less ($45) and you get HD, plus all the weigh ins and pre and post fight conferances.
Someone please help me convince the wife to dump the cable. The kids don't really watch much and besides most of what we do watch is on the net. I would love to tell Time Warner to Eff Off.
We have 2 laptops and a PS3. What else us needed to cut the cord. I need some good hard evidence to push her over the cliff

My girlfriend just followed my lead and canceled hers as well. Her "jumping off" point was when she tallied up the time she spent in front of it each week. Granted it wasnt very much, but she looked at it like "30 minutes before work and an hour after work is almost 8 hours just on week days...which in her mind she could have spent getting more exercise for the pooch."

And can you really blame her? Who would want to park in front of the TV when you could be making this guys life more enjoyable!?
I did the math and that is what made me drop cable. Going from the Comcast triple play to just internet (13mb, which works fine for Netflix movies) I save about $125 a month. $125x12=$1500 savings. What could anyone do with $1500 extra? I was freaked out for about a day or two, then not having cable wasn't a big deal. I would say drop it, if it doesn't work you can get it hooked up again.
Haven't hooked up antennas in over two years and no cable. Netflix, it's just great. News - I listen to lots of podcasts while at work.

Awesome pic!
I cancelled our cable a few years ago and got U-verse back a few months ago. I could def live without it again....eh, maybe.
I don't need the news to tell me that people in America are make the beast with two backsed up. I certainly don't need cable. My fnord ration is so low right now that I can go for a ride without guilt...
And I have no idea when the Anna Nicole Smith courtroom drama ended... I assume after the revolution in Chad.
I figure I watch mine a total of 2 hours a week if that.. Luckily my renters pay for the majority, so I figure I'll pay the same for just internet vs having the bundle. If it was just me, I would just rock the netflix. I like that Hulu has more options/ newer stuff but I cannot get over the fact that the paid version still has so many commercials!!!
