Title: Dry to wet conversion?
Post by: jamesf on December 05, 2013, 04:44:24 AM
If there are any posts about this, they are completely lost in the noise about going wet to dry :-)

I have a 2000 dry clutch Gran Canyon (900SS motor) that needs a new basket, plates and slave cylinder. I also have a 2001 750 Monster with good parts. I know the slave cylinder is the same part number. While none of the other part numbers match, it's be nice it I could swap in the parts. DOes anyonw know about 750/900 interchangeability?

Alternatively, what is involved in converting a dry clutch to wet on the 2000 900 motors?

thanks,
jim

The 750 cases and primary gears are different. I don't think they'll work.

I've never heard anyone ask how to go from dry to wet.

Transmssion input shaft differences will not allow the clutch from the 750 to be installed in the 900.  If you can find someone selling off the parts from an 848 after doing a wet to dry conversion that may be your best bet.

I'm not sure about compatibility but I just converted my S2R to dry clutch using the 848 kit and I have the complete clutch assembly and primary gear as well as the side cover if it will work.

Was there ever a success putting the dry clutch on the 696/796?  Last I heard, people pretty much gave up on it...
