I am less than a year into my first Ducati, but I still believe I am hooked, and will always have one now.

However, I have become obsessed with Cafe Racers and built my first one recently from a KZ/GT 550.
My next bike is probably going to be a bigger bike but still in the cafe style.

I could never afford one new, but the new 1200 Monster is definitely causing a stir in my underpants,
so when the price drops and they are a few years old, I think that might be at the top of my wish list.
That or a Streetfighter

If anything (touch wood) were to happen to the Monster my next bike would likely be the new Street Triple R.

If i could just pick one today I would say a touring bike. Like a Yamaha FJR 1300 or Honda Goldwing F6b. I like big touring bikes like those without getting into something too big like a fully dressed Goldwing or Harley Electra glide. That way i have the Monster for fun and something more practical for much longer distance riding.

The killer endurance monster from rocket garage , it blows me away. Reality maybe a 900 superlight.

The two bikes that I search for most frequently on bikesales are Ducati 748 and Trumpy 675R...

But there's just no way I could justify either.

In the meantime, I'm building a new race bike. Columbus Genius tubing, Campagnolo Record components...

I can't see myself replacing the S2R in the short term. I've only been riding a few years, so the power is about right and the looks of the old monsters are killer. Sounds pretty good too!

If I have the cash, a multi in a couple of years would be nice, or maybe a sport focused sport tourer, like the ninja 1000 with hard bags.

I should have added that I would love my next cafe bike to be a late 70s Bonneville, but I am going to have to find a fair wad of cash just to find the starter bike.  Will be well worth it though.

Turismo in Tasmania, Feb 2010. I couldn't resist a test ride. I didn't get to go far enough to know how comfy it would be but I look pretty relaxed don't I? BTW 848's are now getting down to the $13k level.

A newer Monster with ABS and traction control.

I just like the look of my model better though. Having just said that, the newer styles are growing on me a little.

Problem is... any next bike for me has gotta be an "as well as" coz I'm not parting with my M1100 or the crusty, lovable ugly DR.

So if I was to own other bikes

1) I'd be in deep(er) shit  [evil]  [laugh]
2) Moto Guzzi Griso 1200 SE - the green one.
3) 848

A Cagiva Elefant.
A more dirt road oriented 750 would do. A Monofaro looks the part. Current plans fell through, but one day..

Did you go for a run on the tiger 800xc? I test rode one a couple of years ago and loved it and if I was allowed a second bike that would be right up there.

I also went for a run on a Speed Triple and that was surprisingly good too, hold there weight well and similar geometry to my monster! Not sure bout extended two-up on the speed triple but would be ok!

I guess price range would help narrow the field!!

Cheers,

Scott

There is a Diavel with panniers Bazz, well panniers of sorts plus a few other touring options.
It's called very inventively the Diavel Strada, there is now also a Hyperstrada

ah yes the old monsters will be in our hearts forever but times are changing and ducati only want sales so if new bikes dont have every concept to please the younger generation and magazine writers , the new 1200 multi has had a lot of people pulling there hair out and a lot of people are selling up ,the kiss principle is still the best cheers bazz

What would your next bike be?

I have been contemplating this for a while ... not because I am looking, but because you asked - and it is far too complicated a question.

Firstly I would have to state that the Boss has been quite clear that only certain marques will be allowed in the shed so that is quite limiting (down to one brand basically). The Tiger seems alright - I have tried to convince the Boss' bro to test one but he could never be convinced to buy something so modern.

Then it becomes a question of addition or replacement.

The addition that would be most likely to gain admittance to the shed would be a Ducati Cruiser (or maybe a Brio ... which would be seriously out-performed by the Lammy). Maybe another Lammy would make the cut - if it was the right bike. I don't mind the look of the 946 but they seem bloody expensive (and would be an anti-Lammy no-no). Depending on circumstances something like the Aprilia SRV 850 could be the go as a practical proposition (still an Italian, still a 90deg V-twin apparently).

Beyond that the Hyperstrada could be interesting to fill a certain niche ... but it would be exactly that and therefore seems rather silly.

Replacement would only be a 'heaven forbid' type scenario at which point there would be more important decisions to be made. The Diavel would probably be out because it seems to attract the wrong type of attention, locks you into position and looks stupid when you 'hang-off' plus it is in a higher CTP bracket. The Streetfighter would probably be the pick due to egonomics ... and although I have never ridden an 848 that would probably be more than enough for my modest abilities.

Certainly the new Monster would have to be looked at ... but as yet I have not been able to. The old new-gen Monster doesn't inspire me so I would need to at least see the M1200 in the metal to even consider it.

So there you go ... that didn't answer your question at all, did it?

yes it did mark ive been puting my bum on anything that has two wheels, but the biggest problem is once u own a ducati and can live with there quirks u will never be satisfied as in my case ,it has come down to the following demands no weight on arms and must be pillion friendly

well it's good to see jukie is keeping you on a tight leash, ducati is the only bike ever made anyway isn't it?????

and they don't make a cruiser by the way...............

I'm not worried about looking stupid when i hang off my diavel, and yes, the std seat locks you in a bit but the touring seat is 20mm higher and makes a huge difference, what's the "wrong" type of attention you speak of? i'll elaborate on the type of attention i get on mine but i'm curious to see what you mean mate??

do you mean that hideous indiana thing? wasn't that mainly for the US market? and a huge flop? (thank god!)

the attention? yeah, i understand exactly what you mean by that, and you're spot on, strangely, when i fill up at the regular stops and see the same guys who are usually out on the same roads on their ducati's they completely ignore me on the diavel, i get stuck with ulysses riders on viragos and vt750's wanting a chat, people i have nothing in common with at all. or worse still harley riders telling me to chrome something or get leather lever covers with tassles and that i should "flame it"! good lord................

when i'm on my 888 or R the same guys who ignored me on the diavel accept me with open arms into the "circle of trust", very snobby behaviour, but i can't talk, i cringe when i see some crusty old fart in a belstaff or ulysses vest come walking over...

Ahh no. God no.

You may be equally disgusted, wish to ridicule or point out it's lack of success ... but this is what I was thinking, I present the Ducati Cruiser:

Almost entirely for novelty value ... but hey, considering the family I have married in to ... it is likely to gain some acceptance ... and qualifies for space in Jukie's shed.

From another thread:

just for mark he is one the boss wont mind click on the link  http://www.insella.it/news/ducati-arriva-il-maxi-scooter-nel-2014 (http://www.insella.it/news/ducati-arriva-il-maxi-scooter-nel-2014)

The Stroodle-Scoot  [laugh]

Makes sense in many ways (could be the right bike for you Bazz  [evil]) ... but photo-chopping a Multi to show design intent will never be a good option. More likely to appear with a German badge ... from an aesthetic or ego-driven point of view.

The mock-up with the full trellis a few years ago was a much better 'Ducati'.

EDIT: I can't remember how much trellis there was ... but probably more than the new M1200  [cheeky]

Depending on circumstances something like the Aprilia SRV 850 could be the go as a practical proposition (still an Italian, still a 90deg V-twin apparently).

Footnote to this ... I picked up a copy of January's Cycle Torque (I tend to only grab one once per annum on average) ... and lo and behold ... it contains a review of the Aprilia SRV 850.

Not only that ... but the review was written by our very own Aunty Mal!

Sounds like a bike that would meet or exceed most people's requirements for a bike   [evil]

Its his fascination with stock mirrors that we have always been concerned with.

Im toying with the idea of a Tri Colour
apparently you get all the goodies of an S4RS but at a much cheaper price  [cheeky]

Bazz, ever since last September, for some unknown reason, I just can't a Triclolore Monster out of my head.  So much so, that I now even have Tricolore loo paper........so, i guess it's inevitable that i need one of these rainbow serpents.    [thumbsup]

I can't afford an S4RS, so the Tricolore would  be my next choice

havent got it yet hopefully the weekend but after all the hot weather its suposed to piss down this weekend ,first thought when i seen was fark its ugly looks like something batman would ride but after riding one was very impressed in seating position and room heaps of leg room more power than i would use but its nice and tractable. the white power suspension is awesome only two things i dont like are the front brakes are too savage and i mean savage for such a tall and light bike ill be taking the sintered  pads out replace with soft ones u would be in real trouble in the wet u just touch the lever and they just bite theres no feel just hard braking and the second thing is the battery stuck in front of the exhaust when theres plenty of room under the seat  i might fix that with a lithiam battery when i get home and spend some time in the saddle ill do a better review but the main thing is its v twin cheers all

MAKE SURE YOU WARM IT UP!

And make sure the current owner warms it up, if you don't you risk turning a big end bearing, and oh yeah, KTM road bike parts make ducati parts look bargain basement.

I've rebuilt one of those from the ground up, great bike!

ha! the secret of turning out a decent end result is knowing your limitations! i couldn't paint a fence, the mechanicals are mine, i chose the colour scheme and mods but stuff like the suspension refurb and paint was farmed out, as was the PC map tune.

The bike in real life looks stunning though, it's gloss black metallic with orange pearl in the clear so when the sun hits the metallic in the base coat instead of it looking silver it looks orange in the black.

well i dont know if anyone's intrested or not i thought id write a bit of a review on what ive done and what do i think of the orange side of life aka ktm so here goes
stage one of black out
painted all panels that i wanted black
put stock bars back on with bar risers
put stock brembo pads in (glorious brakes now)
rebent the exhaust so the the cans run close to the frame and stopped melting indicators
bar end mirrors and shorty levers both rizomer rip of from china
put a custom map with tune ecu in now very smooth and a increase in torque
turned the secondly air intake of and the epc restrictor off with tune ecu wonderful piece of free  software
whats left to do anodising and powder coating to follow in the winter

now as a bike what do i think about the superduke i would have to say it really is a wonderful bike to live with if u can get past the looks ,every thing on the bike is a mechanics dream they are so well thought out and easy to work on and if u by part from a dealer they are cheap on parts compared to the ducks  $12 for oil filters $10 for spare blank key $70 for a hundred piece shim kit $62 for 8 brembo pads $70 for touring screen so there not expensive to run , as i bike to ride for me its the most comfy bike that i have ridden it has heaps of leg room but u will run out of tyre before u scarp  the pegs no good if u are a short arse and only slight weight on the arms, as the engine goes its no different than say a s4r but with more torque lower down very quick in the twisties so for me the bike has turned out to be perfect dont get me wrong i still need to pull over for a rest every half hour or so and i dont rev it hard theres no need to full torque is at 6500 so no need to rev to the 10500 red line, tyres wont last long and u have to be gentle on the throttle comming out of corners or the front end gets very light quick so there are fun to ride and the wify dosent mind the pillion seat so were very happy cheers all  bazz
